Does anyone understand WLTP maths???

Battery size: 44.5

WLTP combined: Kw/100 = 18.6; Miles/kw 3.3

So the range by that calculation is: (44.5/18.6)*100= 239km, or 3.3*44.5 = 147 miles

But WLTP range is 263km / 163 miles

Even if it is a test then the results are internally inconsistent. The test cant show 3.3m/kw as the WLTP figure and 163 miles as the WLTP figure.

WLTP range and efficiency of electric cars - ?PushEVs says: “Remember that like EPA, WLTP figures also measure plug-to-wheels consumption, this means that the on-board charger efficiency matters.”

I’m sure it does make sense somehow, although I don’t understand why it is not as simple as a x b = c

The driving efficiency for the WLTP is measured on the AC input power used to recharge the battery, not the power depleted from the battery. The onboard AC to DC charger efficiency is not great.

163 @ 44.5kwh = 3.66m/kwh
163 @ 42.5kwh = 3.84m/kwh

3.3m/kwh @ 163miles = 49.39kwh (Net AC input power)

Thank you! i suppose that makes sense.

i presume the in car gauges measure energy depleted from the batteries.

So the target from the on board usage is 3.84m/kw, 6.14km/kw or 16.27kw/100km at 42.5 useable.

That’s better than we are getting where we have an average of 17.6 or so in normal usage, mostly country driving.
