I have called the DLVA today to resolve my own confusion about tax renewal for my MG4 Trophy LR, which is scheduled for January 2026.
The DLVA representative confirmed that although the new EV charges apply from 01-Apr-25, vehicles which are currently taxed will not require another tax renewal until their current tax expires. The DLVA will issue a renewal notice accordingly, as per their current procedures. If any questions remain, they can be contacted via their website or by phone on 0300 790 6802.

You can retax it now so it will reset and be due March 2026 saves you a couple of months.
