Electronic parking brake, auto hold and hill hold control

What is the action, interaction and difference between the EPB, Auto hold and HHC - do they all effectively apply the parking brake and release it under the right circumstances or do so in different ways?

I find, no matter the circumstances, if the car is brought to a halt gently, it does not apply the parking break until more pressure is exerted on the brake pedal. Then it is released as soon as the accelerator is pressed.
