Electronic Parking Brake Question

I have looked on the forum but can't seem to find the answer. The EPB button is simple, it acts like pulling the handbrake on.

But what function does the P button on the dial have? Why have the two?

As far as I know the EPB keeps the car in Drive unless pulled and held up whereas the P button takes the car out of Drive and, I think, applies a transmission lock. Thus the EPB can be used at traffic lights to stop the brake lights blinding the vehicle behind, and pressing the accelerator moves the car again. I'm ready to be corrected

On the Mokka setting "Park" engages a parking pawl. Locking the transmission separate from the epb. I'd imagine its similar situation.

Just to note that holding the EPB up will engage the emergency part of the brakes, but it does not take the car out of Drive. If you keep your foot down on the accelerator and let go of the EPB switch the car instantly takes off again.
