how do you get to the 12 volt battery when its covered by the engine bay cover
 
Remove the cover?
It's not intended to be routinely accessed AFAIK.
 
Ooo, you've just reminded me to pop a 10mm spanner in the boot for that "just in case, reboot the system" time.
 
They unscrew (come upwards) and allow you to pop the plastic rivets out, then the cover can be pulled off the velcro. Everyone suggests a 10mm spanner. No one mentions a flat headed screwdriver for the engine bay cover.

Thanks for the reply. Do the screws need to be in a certain position?
