Agree with the principle, especially the P.S.. But even if you have all those proposals in place, the rapid charging companies will still have costs to meet, loans to pay off and staff to pay and need to make a profit, so will not be able to sell their services for the cost price of electrons.

Domestic electricity supply has a host of its own network, distribution and supply costs, plus profits, so public charging could easily be comparable or even a bit less.

To bring this back to OP topic... My 80yr old mother has just ordered her first EV. (R5 Iconic+ in Pop Yellow with a black roof, go old girl racer!)

She likes the Anderson Charger but understandably has baulked at cost. She is insisting 'the nice electrician' she uses install it, fair enough, support local and all that. He's keen on Ohme however the mobile signal where they live is notoriously atrocious and unlikely to improve anytime soon so I personally think Ohme is a bad idea.

So from what I've read so far looks like Zappi or Hypervolt might be good options, any thoughts?

I really liked the Simpson and Partners chargers, mainly because they can be "configured" from a huge range of colour choices to match the property. However at £650 to £700 before installation I too baulked. Ended up buying one of the cheapest by Evec (£290) to replace the old dumb charger I had. That was last November and I've not had a single issue with it so far.

I'd go for Hypervolt.

But if she likes the Ohme one, would she like the Octopus one? I think it might be more similar.

The only reason she likes the Ohme one is because this local electrician mentioned it! Although I'm not a fan the more I hear. His quote to fit customer supplied unit was £826 and only mentioned an RCBO not an SPD. At least it was 6mm cable with ethernet combined I suppose.
