Hi all,

Saw this, maybe of interest:

FleetNews: Electric vehicle drivers can charge for free thanks to new tariff.

From what I can see standing charge and unit prices are higher than the Go tarrif I'm on so not for me.

Just in case of use to anyone.

Launching this week, the tariff will offer the free electricity when Britain is generating an abundance of solar and wind power..

Hi,

Google zap flash and a PDF of the rates table is available, varies by region.

There's a post on another forum that came up, looks like the window is only one day a week which if true makes it less appealing, especially as they let you know when which indicates it's different each time.

Thanks Alb, that makes it easier. Agree for me by comparing to Go it's not a good deal, I initially thought it was every day.

Jimarkh, best to contact them about gas only but again for me Octopus fixed is 3p a unit with a cheaper standing charge. I did fix ahead of the price rises so that may not be the deal available today.

I am new to ev having test drove one and decided to go ahead , fortunately for me my order couldn’t be placed as the new model is due out next week ☺️ Delighted with the amendments especially the range etc , I read this and wanted to share, I was trying to educate myself as I might not be able to have a home charging point , I read about an app called OhMe , that allows you to charge for free at times or even be paid to charge ? Has anyone used this app or heard of it , I would also be extremely grateful for any tip that you lovely ev can share with a wee newbie ☺️ Thanks everyone

It isn't an App that would give this ability but a specialist tariff (most likely talking about "Agile" from Octopus).

I have the Ohme charger. You can get them half price from Octopus Energy. They do not give you free electric but they have the Go tariff at a rate of 5p kWh which is a least a third cheaper than the day time rate.

The current Octopus Go rates in my area are....

Unit rate (04:30 - 00:30):
23.41p/ kWh
Unit rate (00:30 - 04:30):
5.00p/ kWh
Standing Charge:

21.06p/ day

Prices include VAT.

Octopus Go is an electricity only smart tariff. For gas, simply choose any Octopus gas tariff.

Their standard variable for me as an ex Avro convertee is

Unit rate :
23.41p/ kWh

Standing Charge:
26.82p/ day

Prices include VAT.

Conclusion - is the trade off of the 4hr cheap rate worth the higher daily standing charge ?

You don't have to move your gas to Octopus if your current supplier has a better rate or you can find cheaper gas elsewhere

Octopus wins quite convincingly on those figures

Yep, I'm still in the process of becoming an Octopuser after the demise of Avro. Once onboard I will be asking about a meter upgrade and then a switch to Go. Same daily rate but lower standing charge and the possibility of the 5p overnight.

Thank you so much that's great to know i know i have so much to learn & i am truly grateful for any advice 🙂

Thing is Octopus daytime rate seems to be far higher than others so how much of a saving would you really make?

You can use your washing machine's timer. You will be surprised what other things you can use, I have my immersion and on suite water heater on timers
