It seems as if our first gen 1 mgzs with a 42.5 kWh battery was much more economical than our new gen 2 with a larger 50 kWh battery... even in winter I have never experienced such consumption figures with our gen 1... so we have now a slightly larger battery but less range ?.
apparently the gen2 engine uses more energy.
Do more people have this experience?

Did your gen 1 have the same battery chemistry as your gen 2?

No, to the contrary, the gen 2 is far more sophisticated in this respect.

Official figures for combined WLTP are:

Gen 1: 299 Wh/mile
Gen 2 LR: 286 Wh/mile
Gen 2 SR: 278 Wh/mile

So Gen 2 is a bit more efficient, at least in testing.

But, I'm not sure what cold weather factor is used in the WLTP testing. My guess is a constant temp.

So it is entirely possible things are different in the cold between the two.

One thing it should have had is a heat pump. In my previous 38 kWh Ioniq this meant the gap between cold and warm weather efficiency was smaller than it is on this car.
