HS PHEV
Bought an MG HS PHEV in August this year (25plate). Never had an electric or hybrid car before. Have always driven diesels and feel like I’ve made a mistake with this car……
A full charge used to be excellent with the range dropping and staying about 45 miles. The car was set to automatically switch between the two modes so the EV range never really dropped any further than 45 miles until I switched the setting to EV only. Ran it down to about 15 mile range then charged fully.
I have only ever used a three pin slow charge or the public charges for fasted charge. Since three weeks ago, after charging, the range drops dramatically and I only do short 1-3 mile trips. I did flip the setting back to automatically switch between the petrol and electric modes but that’s made no difference.
Is this normal for the car battery to need charging so often (like I say, I never needed to charge the car this frequently before).
Any assurances, advice or help will help much appreciated.
Thank you.

To be honest, I don't really understand what you mean. "The range drops dramatically" – what range? And the HS PHEV can't charge quickly, not even at public charging stations.
Perhaps you could tell us what you mean by "drastically".
I don't know what the temperatures are like where you are, but here it's been below freezing almost every day recently, and that does noticeably reduce the electric range. In summer, I always got around 110 to 120 km (in Germany, we only have the small 21.4 kWh battery).
Now it's only around 80 km, depending on how high you set the heating.

Hello Totti1001, I’ve attached a couple pictures but as an example, the estimated remaining range was 49 miles, after driving approx 10 miles over three separate journeys, the estimated range has dropped to 13 miles.
The outside temp has been cold, certainly between 0 and 8/9 degrees so I have had the heating up quite high.
I understand that the car is not a fast charge, however on public charges, the charging is far quicker than charging from my home socket. I am getting a proper home charger fitted next month by Octopus which will be easier to charge the car properly and on a schedule.

From my own experience with the HS, I can tell you that the heating consumes a lot of battery power. This is especially true if you only drive short distances, because the car has to heat up again and again. When it's cold, I mainly use the seat heating and set the heating to a maximum of 20 degrees. Only when the windows are frozen in the morning do I set the heating to full power for a few minutes, and then you can watch the range decrease again.
If you have a wallbox installed, remember that the HS can charge a maximum of 7.2 kW and only single-phase. With an 11 kW (3-phase) wallbox, you can charge a maximum of 3.6 kW. If you want more, you need a 22 kW wallbox (3-phase). Or a single-phase one with 7.2 kW. Here in Germany, single-phase with a 7.2 kW load on one phase is not permitted.

Thank you so much. This is really helpful! I really appreciate it.
