After a gestation period of exactly 9 months (sound familiar) my new baby, ZSLR Trophy EV, will be delivered next Thursday. I have a very friendly dealer who has promised to take as long as I need to help me with binding the Ismart app., and also with any other questions I might have concerning the app., charging etc.

In order to make the most of my tutorial time it would be good if I could go to the handover with some information about the main areas which others have found especially difficult or frustrating.

If you encountered any hard problems, particularly those associated with the technology, in the early days of ownership I would be interested to hear from you.

Congratulations, is it a boy or a girl? Maybe twins?

Definitely get them to set up the app
The standby/start/stop and Drive didn't click with me, when I read the manual, but a one minute tutorial from my dealer was useful - It's actually really easy though.....get in the car, foot on the footbrake, press start, wait for it to bong, then select Drive or Reverse

Do ask them in advance to check that all updates have been applied and that it's been charged enough to get you home

Congratulations @jaykew

I do not have the pleasure of an EV just yet, hopefully within the next 14 days, but reading a load of very very useful stuff on here by all this forums members, I would ask them to show you how to manually unlock the charging plug, should you experience problems when disconnecting. Once this can be done without you panicking, all the other re-boots etc can all happen in slow time if required

A lot of people seem to have had problems with "dead reckoning" on the satnav. I'd ask them to sort that out before they go. :)

Just from reading on here, many of the initial issues people had weren't really 'technical' and could've been avoided by them using the long wait to go over even just a few of the basic functions, like operating the wipers ?

Common problems you may want to check before you start doing burnouts at the traffic lights, that some dealers themselves aren't always clear on:
  • Sat Nav operating properly in so much as the pointer knows where you are/doesn't freeze (dead reckoning issue).
  • Updates done, including any that related to the rapid charge bricking issue.
I'd also:
  • Download iSmart to your device if you don't have it already.
  • Depending on your familiarity with EVs, get them to show how to start/end a charge, as well as how to boot up properly.
Alb also already posted a new car checklist: Check List for picking up new car

Infotainment manual at the bottom... for some reason I don't think this is on MG's site (or at least it never used to be).

Good luck :D

My learning curve was having a car with MG pilot and its options. When I got used to it I found I really good especially for motorways but trying to work it out via the manual was confusing for me. A couple of Utube videos helped immensely and I found it much easier after watching them a few times. If you've already had a car with these features you'll probably be alright but it was a 1st for me.
I love the car and hope you do too.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. Setting up / binding the app, Sat Nav dead reckoning, unlocking the charging plug and the intricacies of MG Pilot are now all on my "Tell me more About....." list when I get to the dealer. That should keep us busy for a couple of hours.
Also thanks Nutnut for the infotainment handbook. So much information in there and I have still got 6 days to study it before collecting the vehicle.

As said above, do yourself a favour and download the iSmart App to your phone and register it ASAP.
It CAN take a few attempts to get it up and running.
I did mine about a week before we collected the car.
Once this is done, the sales person can use your phone to "bind" the App to the car pretty quickly, saving a lot of time and messing about on collection day.

Actually my very helpful dealer did that for me last December. This week he agreed to bind it to the car when I go in to collect it on Thursday.
