So a couple of days ago when I was reversing my wife heard a weird scraping noise from my car.
So today I was driving back from work and the rear axle / brakes or something was making a really loud metallic scraping noise - this continued for about 2 miles, I was going over speed humps to try and shake off the noise or whatever was scraping.

Then suddenly it just stopped ?

Anyone got any kind of scooby doo what the noise could have been ?

Im awaiting a call from the dealer who I bought car off but I am going on a trip to customers 90 miles away on Wednesday so really hoping someone has possibly experienced before - can't think how some form of metallic bit could have maybe got wedged somewhere ?

Cheers

Ade

I’ve had that once after going down a gravel track. It does sound like you’re towing 2 tonne of scrap metal…

Tried reversing etc but it didn’t work. I could see the small stone caught in the near side rear brake disc back plate.

I managed to poke it out with a screwdriver. Handy having big gaps between the wheel spokes!

We had the same thing recently with our eNiro, it dropped out after a few miles (narrow country lane with zero places to stop safely) and last week our nephew to ask called if I had a jack so he could get the wheel off his Volvo, turn out he had a piece of flint wedged between the disk and back plate.

It will be a stone or something caught between the disc and the dust shield.
If you are feeling brave you can very gently push the dust shield by a few millimeters thereby widening the gap and allowing the stone to fall out. This depends on where the stone is located at the time or how big it is. It may not fix the problem. Alternatively you can pay a mechanic to do this. However I have done this with success. Hope this helps.
