How many gears does the PHEV have?

I'm getting an HS PHEV soon as a company car. I currently have a Skoda Octavia IV PHEV which has a 6 speed DSG gearbox, but it looks like the HS has a two or three speed box? Is this correct? How does it work?

It is a 3 speed box, sort of a 3 speed variable transmission I believe.

It’s two forward gears and on reverse.

It isn’t a variable speed transmission. Have a look in other threads for links to the sister car Roewe D5X DMH.

The 2025 HS uses, as far as I can ascertain, EV power to pull away, hence doesn’t need a low gear fit that.

Very smooth and not like any normal (ish) gearbox.

I came from a Superb iV - drive the HS PHEV - you’ll be impressed!

I too had a Skoda Octavia IV PHEV before my MG HS PHEV, the MG is so much smoother. There's a video on the Roewe website that includes shots of the 2 speed gearbox working (oddly the petrol engine seems to run in pairs of cylinders).

Did I see 9 mentioned or was that another version of the HS

That's right, the PHEV has "only" a 2-speed gearbox. The petrol engine is connected to the electric transmission and thus transmits power continuously, unlike a DSG transmission. In addition, a 60 kW generator is integrated, which continuously recharges the battery. Even my dealer didn't know this and tried to tell me it was a 7-speed DSG. Which is true for the pure petrol engine.

It certainly works well. Better than a DSG imo.
