Hub caps

Has anyone experienced this? only seems to of happened to the drivers side hub caps currently. back wheel worst front less so.

Looks like something (acidic?) has splashed on it. Although, interestingly, it doesn't seem to be affecting the silver areas.

Something I have driven through I would imagine. doesn't seem to of effected the rubber tires, maybe strong farming chemicals, live in the countryside. only just appeared last month or so.

Have you used any hand car washes recently? Instead of wheel cleaner, some use the stuff they use to clean brickwork as it is cheaper. However it is acidic and can damage the lacquer finish. It appears the lacquer is peeling/etched.

I think the silver sections are the original colour of the plastic hub cap, and the black sections are painted and lacquered.

Mine's always been washed at different local hand wash places for the last two years and no peeling of the lacquer. I did coat them with ceramic wax when I first got the car which may have helped.
If the car is less than 12 months old then they should be covered under warranty.

Mine are showing signs of slight de-lamination at some of the edges.

I was thinking of taking mine off and only putting them on if I go on a long trip to get the extra aerodynamics. Not having them on the wheels wouldn't make much difference around town.

Exactly the same issue on the same wheel ….. and living in the country - so no dogs!

Yes this happened to my ZS ev on all 4 wheels. I attempted to get it registered as a warranty claim, but as the car was more than a year old my claim was denied. I wasn't impressed.

I had the same problem with my ZS 2022 L Range was advised it was caused during visits

i had the same problem with my ZS 2022 L/Range had from new,never used a car wash until car 1.5 years then noticed like a laquer peeling I was advised by this helpful forum that it was the liquid they clean the wheels with!

I have the same problem with rear passenger one which is the only one that has been in direct sunlight as the other 3 are shaded.

Yep. Count us in. Just the drivers side. The dealers - Nathaniels of South Wales - said they will help us sort it out at the next service. One recent contributor said they thought it might be the sun. Our drivers side sits sunny side - so maybe

Probably got hit with lots of stones that are put on the roads in the UK with salt in the winter. That will compromise the clear coat and paint layers allowing corrosion. Amolicied by cars passing ghe ogher way on ghe driver's side.

I've noticed my NSF trim has a similar condition as per this thread ... that's the only wheel which is regularly exposed to prolonged periods of sunshine. (When we get it up here).

It's not so bad as to irk me though.

Not that I buy this as a reason at all, but if that was the case, then are we saying the product isn't fit for purpose?

Not at all, just like stone chips are much more possible on the front of the car during these winter condtions and nothing to do with the manufacturer or warranty cover. Any damagae to do with paint/clear coat will only be covered by warranty if the damage is coming from behind the paint outwards, not from the top of the paint inwards and the scenario I decribed is the latter.
