Hybrid Cars Fatality Rates Overestimated?

Mail on Sunday says that death rates in hybrids are three times those of petrol vehicles.

The last throws of desperation by the anti EV lobby ..... attempt to make startling claims about your kids being killed in these monstrosities ...... I wonder if the horse and buggy industry would have used similar tactics back in the day ......

I think most people these days realise the sensational news print is Sunday break away from reality,.
Only those who lack critical thinking training, would place any credibility in anything these printers of fiction sprinkled with just a touch of fact pump out .... it must be difficult for those that have to archive this stuff ..... does it go in the fiction section, or the bin, can't use it for wrapping the fish and chips anymore

The figures are based on the number of cars on the road not the mileage travelled. Hybrids are or were mainly company cars so probably they do a higher mileage.

The rates have also been published in The Times. Which says:
"Overall, the data shows that there was one death for every 8,000 hybrid cars on the roads last year compared with one death for every 20,000 diesel vehicles, and one death for every 25,000 petrol engines."

Notice EVs are conspicuous by their absence with one death per 55,000 vehicles.

Statistics can be used to show anything you want, the ratio of blonde females to university professors does not indicate it is genetically predetermined that a blonde female does not have the intelligence to become a University professor, but maybe it could be shown the blonde females have a better lifestyle during the yrs a university professor developed the skill levels and desire to become a university professor .....

The percentage of vehicle that are hybrids over the percentage of people killed as a result of a motor vehicle accident, might paint a very different image .... but that wouldn't sell newspaper would it ........

I May have Missed it but I’m unaware of any deaths in wood burning steam powered vehicles or those drawn by reindeer so they are obviously the safest of all.

It's a bit sad really, but there are people who believe such nonsense ..... How could some politicians get elected if there weren't naive and gullible people who walk amongst us I'm just hoping it's not contagious .... but there seems to have been outbreaks in groups in the US .... so ....... Should we wear a mask and ear muffs ..... or just apply rational critical thinking .... do they still teach that in the UK .... it seems obvious it isn't part of the public education system in other parts of the world

My brother who is as intelligent as me (if that is actually possible) has in the previous 20 years turned out to be a right wing, racist, almost fascist believer in all things daily fail, will on the seldom occasions we now speak, quote such idiotic rhetoric. So, yes actually! He has a nice car but is not a "car guy" but can quote all he knows about my choice of an EV in negative terms, due to the similarly informed commentary he gets from his pals at the 19th hole.
