MG4 EV (2026+)
Having taken delivery of a new MG4 Premium yesterday, I am trying to decide which home charger to have installed.

I currently have two quotes one is for a Zappi and the second is for a Ohme Pro, as I want a tethered charger.

Our energy provider is Octopus, so looking to move to their Intelligent Go tariff as soon as the home charger is installed.

If you have either of these chargers, I will be grateful to hear your thoughts on what they are like, how reliable they are at charging, especially if you are on the Intelligent Go tariff?

Just to throw one more point charger into the mix, does anyone have a Zappi Glo charger? If so, are you happy with it and why so?

The tethered Ohme pro works perfectly for me with my e Berlingo on Octopus IG tariff.

My worry about the Ohme is that they might start charging you for the mobile connection in the future, or might fall out with the mobile provider.

Having the mobile connection is handy if your charger is a long way from your router and has bad Wi-Fi. Otherwise I would get the Zappi (or Hypervolt).

The thing that put me off the Ohme pro was that the power supply cable doesn't go into the unit, it comes with a short supply cable with a junction box attached which I thought looked messy. I went for the Hypervolt in the end.

I have the Ohme and it works just fine but you do need a mobile signal for it
Thanks for the reply. I will check the mobile signal where I plan to have the charger installed.

I will mention this to my installer and see what he says. Thanks for your feedback.

Interesting point about possible charging in the future for the mobile connection. Thanks for your reply.

Good to hear your experience. Thanks for taking g the time to reply.

The Ohme is a sealed unit with a fly lead, so there's probably no way round it unless it's mounted within a couple of feet from where it will be connected to your mains supply.

As your energy supplier is Octopus have you considered their own charger ?

I did. However I don't believe you can buy just the charger unit on its own, and our installation is not a straightforward one which I tried to explain, but the person I spoke to at Octopus simply wanted me to place an order online, and pay for it straight away.
Maybe it's an age thing, but I have wanted someone to come out and talk through the options for the routing of the cabling, which is what I have managed to do, and now I just want to make sure that his recommendation of the Zappi is the best.

Had a Zappi installed by Octopus just over a year ago, works fine. It's a bit dated looking, then so am I. I chose the Zappi for the solar integration (the Ohme didn't have that at the time) which is working well. I do seem to have an issue with IOG smart charge/MG4/Zappi where the MG4 will sometimes abort the charge if Octopus stop/start the charge too many times. It turns out my nephew has the same issue with his IOG smart charge/Volvo/Ohme occasionally to. It works fine with the KIA though.

You can take the Ohme apart. There are about 8/10 screws under the rear sticker.

If your wifi reaches where you are charging the car then the connection is not an issue. If you do not have or do not intend to have solar panels then the Ohme Pro should work fine with your MG4. Everything is worked off the Ohme app with Octopus I.Go - you just set what percentage of charge you wish to add to your car and at what time you want it by. Plug-in and it will do it for you.
You can add different EV cars to the app.

If your installation is complicated (mine was) Octopus will send an engineer to assess the feasibility of the install. They asked me to upload a video of where my electricity meter was situated and where I thought the cable run could go. Octopus keep you informed via email - their customer service, in my experience, is first rate. I had issues with my main fuse but it was all sorted out in the end. The engineer who connected it all up gave me his mobile number and said if I had any issues or concerns he would pop back.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Octopus for an installation.
