The full list price would have to drop below 40k to be below the Expensive Car Supplement (ECS)So not the purchase price on the invoice, then. That's a shame.![]()

Only if they can also satisfy the "eco" part of the grant, otherwise it's only £1500.and below £37,000 for the max. £3,750 electric car grant . IF MG register for the scheme!

"The Electric Car Grant has 2 bands. £3,750 for the most sustainably produced cars and £1,500 for cars that meet some environmental criteria. This is in recognition of the need to address embedded carbon emissions across a vehicle’s lifetime, as well as tailpipe emissions. Vehicles that do not meet minimum sustainability standards will not be eligible for a grant.Thought just being Leccy was, Eco enough.![]()

The minimum environmental criterion is for manufacturers to hold a verified science based target. Science based targets are commitments corporate entities make to reduce their environmental impact, in line with the UK’s international climate commitments, which are verified by the independent Science Based Targets Initiative. The amount of grant available per vehicle will depend on the level of emissions associated with production of the vehicle. Emissions from vehicle production are assessed against the carbon intensity of the electricity grid in the country where vehicle assembly and battery production are located."
It's unclear if the "emissions associated with production" portion includes transport from factory to dealership.
Which might bugger MG as the cars are shipped halfway across the planet.

As I read it, only those cars made in UK will get the full grant.Only if they can also satisfy the "eco" part of the grant, otherwise it's only £1500.

OK if you are planning swapping to a Nissan Leaf, TBH I'd sooner go for something different![]()
It has already been mentioned that Chinese EVs are looking likely that they won't qualify, doesn't matter if they are under £37k or not.and below £37,000 for the max. £3,750 electric car grant . IF MG register for the scheme!
Renault are reportedly "hopeful" that their cars will qualify for the full amount. As I read it, only those cars made in UK will get the full grant.

Sounds similar to the French subsidies, which I believe primarily subsidises the European small EVs.Renault are reportedly "hopeful" that their cars will qualify for the full amount.
The eco section might also take into account the carbon footprint of shipping Chinese-built cars halfway around the planet to get here.Because of how they were made? Are those UK factories fully Eco. Or can the clean smoke be seen escaping in Winter. Includes cigarettes and central heating exhaust fumes.
