Hi just a question before my mgs5 arrives regarding insurance. I am leasing the car but want to insure it in my wife's name and me as a named driver. She has max no claims bonus in her name and as I had a company van until I retired my no claims expired. So can I lease in my name and insure in hers ?

Yes, I had done exactly that with our previous car.

As long as she's the main driver and isn't claiming her NCD on another car.

...it is a bit of a minefield in the event of you having an accident serious enough for the insurance company to investigate to mitigate its losses. They might require proof of who was the principal driver, and if they come to the conclusion that it was really you, your house and everything you own might be gone.

It's worth considering what is the point of insurance.

Insurance companies are clamping down on cases where the main driver is not the person on the insurance and it constitutes insurance fraud. Why bother trying to save a finger when insurance costs an arm these days?

It's called fronting if the main driver on the insurance, isn't actually the main driver. It got clamped down on as new drivers were putting their parents down as main drivers, whereas it was the new driver.

I have a Peugeot van for which I am the main driver and owner , this keeps my no-claims bonus active in my name. My wife owns the MG4 and has the insurance in her name with myself has the named main driver . This keeps her no-claims bonus active. If I was " officially " the main driver with the insurance in my name , she would lose her hard earned bonuses in two years time . At least that's what we think unless the terms and conditions have changed over the years without us realising?
