The front isnt the best but the protruded 3 pieces of glass in the front bumper is an interesting design. 895-995kg is good going.

Battery and motors are in the central tunnel of the car.

If MG are going to do a special edition or 2nd gen a target weight of 1400-1600 kg would be good.

The front, the top, the side and the back isn't the best.

I bet if they'd put normal doors on the Cyberster it would have cut the weight down.
 
Simulated gear shifts or sequential i reckon. The people who preordered it dont want fake noise so wonder what theyll decide. I think the Speedster has a real road presence about it.

Plus its got actual buttons not just a gigantic ipad

Yeah but you forget petrolheads are a huge market in the sports and super car segment. Buttons have been requested by owners

Theyre still buying 4.0 liter Porsches and 5.0 litre v8 simply because they like the character of the car. How do you get those people to buy into an electric car with no sound, engagement, enjoyment they get from the ICE cars.

Thats the headache car designers need to deal with. One reason the market isnt flooded by Cyberster rivals. But youll see a double uptake of Electric boxsters when it does arrive.

Porsche will probably be able to produce a car an ice owner would consider. Also lightness, handling, engagement without the jiggery pokery. Like what the young Chinese guy has done with the Lancia Stratos lookalike (Sc01). Lightweight and Fully adjustable car multi use.

Its easy to say move on. Whats the selling point for a Car enthusiast previously use to ICE? Depends on the use case. Some people still want a lightweight sports car. The original ethos of MG. If you dont do it someone else will

Buy an ICE car, with it's paddle shift, vroom vroom noises, exhaust smell etc etc. If you buy an EV your ready for something different, ready to move on. 🙂👍

I have exactly the same sentiment.
However the planet needs everybody to be driving EVs.
And unfortunately market forces are king.
you can't just stop ICE production, you need the political will.
With the rise of misinformation and the turn to the popular right, this is unreliable.

So if BEV manufacturers can attract petrol heads to the fold, that's to the good, even though it feels stupid.
 
Two things should not be confused here: I can still be a fan of combustion engine cars, but use an electric car myself for everyday use because it makes more sense, is more environmentally friendly and more economical.

But there are also those who refuse to embrace progress, who want to cling to combustion engines at all costs, who close their minds and refuse to accept that something much better is coming along.

And yes, I'm referring to the gear lever shown in this video. It's a relic from a bygone era and simply no longer makes sense in a modern electric car. I'll be honest didn't buy an EV for environmental reasons, or particularly to save money. If that's a by product then great, I just fancied summut totally different. That's why I bought an EV.
And I'm really glad I did.
And I don't find meself, missing or indeed wanting, fake gear changes or fake engine noises. I really don't see the point.

I think you're all missing the key point which is why there is a slow progress to incorporate sports car segment under EV sector. Yeah its different but thats what made ICE exciting. Its more than 0 to 60 and snazzy looks. Its also engagement, however that will be included. You dont want noise or simulated gear shifts each to their own. Stick to standard EV.

Thats what car designers are grappling with. Obviously you as a consumer are not the least interested in whether car designers bring people over from ICE or not. Close mindedness is failing to recognize there are other ways to do EV more than people needing to just "move on"

As a business thats their concern and job. You can stick to the cars that get you from A to B. But for others they want something akin to what they had. Lightweight, Sporty handling, adjustable for the track. SC01 and Longbow offers that as well as 2.5 - 3.5 second acceleration. Caterham want to offer that too. The enthusiasm for these new EVs has been high from all over Europe and Asia. Xiaomi thought to invest in it.

If you dont think weight, handling, engagement, aural pleasure matters then stick to what youre used to. I say EV manufacturers need to broaden their horizons and see what the market can do to bring over more ICE enthusiasts. Youre laughing but the biggest car company in the World Toyota along with Hyundai are trying to do that. Nissan and others will soon join them.

You want people to come over to EV but not giving them anything but a 1800kg car with no on/off button and a gigantic ipad in the middle. The market isnt just about you incase you didn't know.

I have an MX5 and it is a no from me, mainly because it is too big, and also too expensive.
Lol try telling people that other people want a lightweight option that costs around 40k like an electric MX5 and you get told tough. But Its a valid demand and market out there for that based on response to concepts and ideas. It will be more niche than an mx5. But big enough to take two adults if not more. If MG dont do it. Someone else will as seen in this thread. Im sure SAIC want a share of that market too. Hence talks of a lighter smaller Cyberster with and without a roof.

Mayb thats why the coupe is delayed. Trying to do something with that weight, tech and battery wise
 
Never said it was just about me. Its my opinion, and as I've always said each to there own. And it'll still be a standard EV as such, but with false gear changes and false noises, if that's what folk want in an EV, fair enough. And if it brings more ICE driver's over to EVs again fair enough. To be honest I'm not bothered either way.
I'm very happy with my X Power just the way it is. 🙂👍

light weight zippy sports car great! I just don't like fake, fashion and unnecessary gimmicks.
design something that's the best you can for purpose with "elegant" engineering and I'm a fan. Add fake stuff to it for whatever purpose and you've turned me off.
But I know I'm not mainstream, and if that's what it takes to get customers, so be it, just don't count me as a customer.
