ISMART app password issue - no longer accepts non alpha numeric

So,

Been using the app since I bought the car in June and it’s been ok, got logged out a few times and just inputted the password and it works- when it feels like it- as often it just doesn’t connect to the car but whatever- however today I’ve got logged out and on inputting my password I’ve noticed it won’t accept non alpha numeric characters which my password has and is kind of a retrograde step in terms of security

The app sometimes does odd things ... my registered email is a Gmail one where I've included +mg before the @ sign. At one point the app rejected that as a valid email (rejected the + sign), but this was resolved at the next app update. (In the meantime I was able to login using my phone number, which I'd already associated with my account, and the same password).
