iSmart error - Please make sure vehicle is in park gear (33)

Trying to preheat cabin this morning and iSmart gave the following error “please make sure vehicle is in park gear (33)”. Tried scan a couple of times and everything was as is should be.
Any solutions or suggestions?

Unlock the car, get in, press brake, select D and move it a foot, select P, get out and lock?

Doesn't help with preheating now, but may resolve it for future needs.
