I have just done the exact same thing, fl mg5 in for service last Thursday took a test drive to fill in time while I waited. Very impressed so have ordered the same as you even the same colour, expecting it before the end of the month.

Update after seeing the post about £9500 off, I rang the dealer they said they weren't running the deal, but following a phone call by them to MG, MG agreed to match the price but no cheap finance. So I paid cash no brainer as the money would never earn that much money in any saving account. Pick it up tomorrow.

It is quite funny listening to them whinge, get the sales manager involved, tongue sucking, it was about that point I said oh ok you can’t do it then I am off.

It was a similar story for me.
My car isn't in yet but paying for it before the end of June enables the deal.
Of course I wouldn’t normally pay before I'd seen the car but the saving is so massive it's worth the risk.
Amazing that it's only £2K more than I paid for my MG5 four years ago!

There's far better deals to be had, than MG Affinity at the moment.
Best I've seen is 10 grand off!

Saw the MGS5 in the showroom - impressive but the boot was slightly smaller than my MG5PFL - though the boot floor did drop making it deeper - good for the dog!
However, I really liked the HS hybrid next to it. Much bigger boot - wondering if the MGS6 will be as big?
The deals on the MGS5 are amazing.

I looked at the S5 and thought the shape and boot were dissapointing. However, like you, I was happier with The HS PHEV size and shape. Dealer did say the Marvel R is arriving soon to UK, Is this renamed S6 for the UK?

I didn’t think to check in the boot but I presume it comes with a granny charger? First journey is down to Wales straight after pick up and looks like granny charging overnight will be required.

When I asked what it came with they said standard charging cable you plug into a charger, no mention of granny cable. I already have a granny charger so wasn't bothered. I will find out tomorrow when I pick it up.

I have a granny charger from the ZS, might have to keep it just in case, let me know if you do get one and I can drop this back in the ZS

I hope it is not the Marvel, as the boot is small! Marvel R = 357 litre boot - compared with 507 litres for the HS.

I am not familiar with car dealer / manufacturer economics but I don't understand why they are offering such big discounts on a relatively new model?

Could it be in preparation for the launch of the MGS6?

I think my MG5 PFL SR is lovely to drive, so from the comments above about the MGS5 capabilities it does seem surprising.

Any thoughts on this?

It's giving them a lot of exposure as evidenced here and it's a very short window of opportunity so the cost to them is probably not that significant.

Perhaps they know the near future model range of their competitors and potential price range.
Here in France they are an , order only , model with very limited discounts for early customers. They are not even listed as an available to buy now model ( none shown in stock ) on the official MG EU site and various car magazine sites.

I think it is more to do with sales targets then anything else, the discount is coming from MG not the dealers, I bet you they had a certain volume to sell before end of June.

Just picked up my S5 it only had a standard cable in a bag. No granny charger, I was told MG no longer supply them.
