Just had an email from Octopus

They are dropping prices from 1st of April after the upcoming changes to charges (government taking some of these on instead of customers).

This takes 3.5p off the unit, which is nice for the peak rate. ~30.5p down to ~27.5p

But for the off peak rate that seems huge! (as a proportion)

Off-peak unit rate for Go is going to be 4.99 p / kWh

Is that right?

Is Intelligent Go dropping even lower than that?

Will be reviewed in October apparently.

We don't really need electricity from now until October but I suppose we can fill up the battery for 5p and sell for 12p during the day.

Sadly it ends as fixed end of June.

I haven't received my notificaton yet, but that will be nice.

I'm still pinching myself. I thought I was hallucinating. This in the mail this morning.

At my work we had to send out our big marketing emails in batches because there was a limit to the number we could send at once. And Octopus will have a LOT more customers, each with their own personalised rate to include.

Just started to look around as need to renew beginning of May. Currently with Eon Next Drive v7. Eon have pulled all of the fixed price tarrifs this morning. Spoke to CS who said it happened around 10:30. They should put them back later today/tomorrow, but at what price.

IMO not worth looking until you can compare all of them with post 1st April prices when the reductions come in.

Hi guys, I've missed the boat with the fix, I was holding off a bit... And octopus didn't offer me anything close to what the guy above got sadly!

I'm looking to switch as I can see other providers are offering better rates for off peak than intelligent octopus go. But it seems most providers don't support smart charging with the MG4 Trophy LR 2022? Do you guys know which providers do support this? As I'm tempted to stick with octopus if they're the only provider still offering smart charging to my car?

Thanks,
Sam

The MG4 won't be supported by any smart tariff including IOG.
You will need a compatible EVSE (charge point)

But it works with intelligent octopus go? Is that not a smart tariff?

I have it and it adjusts my charging schedule and I get slots outside of off peak? All works automatically just fine

IOG doesn't communicate with the vehicle directly. It is the EVSE that is controlled by OE; hence @Jomarkh's comment that "You will need a compatible EVSE (charge point)"

Thanks for that info, so I have Hypervolt 3 pro and this seems to be an EVSE charge point. Does anyone know which other providers provide smart tariffs that work with this and the MG4 that aren’t octopus?

Or is everyone on non smart EV tariffs? It’s bladdy confusing. I’ve gathered that eon drive smart wouldn’t work?

It seems some say that won’t work at all with MG4 for smart charging like you say but don’t mention anything about it working if you have an EVSE charger? Is it only octopus energy intelligent go this works for?

My IGO 12 m runs out end June sadly.
Off peak 3.49p
Peak 24.95
Standing charge 45.42p
Off peak is 23:30 to 05:30

Being a Friday night and having not been asked out on a date👵... I've done a google search of "what energy suppliers support Hypervolt 3 pro EVSE" for you :)

The answer according to google is...

AI Overview:-

The Hypervolt Home 3 Pro EVSE is designed to be compatible with all energy suppliers, but it offers specialized, direct integration with specific smart tariffs to enable automatic, low-cost charging.

Primary Supported Smart Tariffs:
  • Octopus Energy: Specifically supports Intelligent Octopus Go and Octopus Agile.
  • OVO Energy: Specifically supports OVO Charge Anytime.
  • EDF: Supports EDF smart charging EV tariffs via a strategic partnership, including their "PowerShift" platform.
Other Compatible Suppliers:
Hypervolt states the charger works with all energy providers, including those with standard off-peak, overnight rates such as:
  • E.ON
  • British Gas
  • ScottishPower
  • So Energy
  • Good Energy
Key Features for Suppliers:
  • Direct Integration: The charger connects via the Hypervolt app to automate charging during the cheapest hours, often without needing a specific car model.
  • Solar Compatibility: It features a "Super Eco" mode that allows charging directly from home solar PV systems.
  • No Earth Rod: The unit allows for installation without an earth rod, simplifying the process

I had done a google search. I was just trying to get an idea of people’s experiences, to see what tariffs people had managed to get to work with an mg4 as it’s a confusing picture.

For example, Eon’s website says you can use Hypervolt 3 chargers with other cars but not MG4’s. (Just tested it with same charger but tried other cars). Maybe I misunderstand all this, but if it’s the charger that controls it, why does it not let me get it with an MG4?

And EDF for example it shows my charger is compatible but the MG4 is not in their list and it says “If either isn't listed yet, you won’t be able to join - but keep checking back!”
This implies both charger and car need to be compatible? Rather than just the charger?

Anyone got any first hand experience with this?

I would interpret this as being like the Octopus rule.

You have to have at least one of them. If neither car nor charger is compatible then you can't have the tariff.

If you've got a compatible EVSE you'll be fine.

No, our EVSE hasn't been integrated with any of the smart tariffs as yet.
