Latest upgrade for mg4

I have just had 1st service of my mg 4
2 things happened
1st my Dashcam stopped working, this was wired in to fuse box.
2nd I have been used to changing the cruise control system in 5mph increments now it is 1mph. The only way to fast raise or lower the speed now is hold button up or down. But then you have to take your eyes of the road to ensure you don't go too far from your target speed. I was wondering if anybody misses the 5mph control of cruise control.

The long and short function to change target speed has always been software version dependent. On some versions of the software the long hold gives the 1mph increment and on others the 5mph increment. Same is true of the single blip some versions give the 5mph change whilst others 1mph.

Problem has always been you never know when the long hold increment will kick in so it is hit and miss.

Check the cable into the dashcam. This, for some unforseen reason always seems to get disconnected when the car is in for a service, no idea why, amazing coincidence.

When I have taken my vehicle in for service, they always disconnect my dashcam and my Carlinkit device. I guess they don’t want the former to record anything?

I wonder if leaving them connected could give false readings when they are checking the software.

Dealerships will generally unplug/ disable dash cams, remove logging devices from diagnostic ports, remove non standard items, turn off HVAC etc. I think disabling the dash cam takes away any ammunition for the owner to dispute anything about the service procedure or activities while it on their premesis. They may well claim that it is not a public area and recording is not legal. Don't forget your car won't be the only car in on that day and the workshop technicians will have several cars the are dealing with simultaneously, so there may well be periods of inactivity when they are waiting for parts or owner consent for work required. I even found a fail notice for an MOT many years ago, before the electronic system because they put the car through the MOT before the service. They'd mistakenly left it in the paperwork before issuing a pass. I don't think its uncommon that dealers do it this way round, as this enables them to see any extra workload. Now that it's on the government website and you are able to check the MOT history of your car you may well be surprised to see fail notices before a pass is issued.

Thank you all for replying, I thought it was only me that had the dashcam disabled. Now I have to wait for 2 weeks to return car and as the dealer is 10 miles away they want to charge me £24 for curtesy car. To put car back to the condition I delivered.
I hate this 1mph speed change. Now have to hold button to fast forward or back . This means I have to take my eyes off the road. My personal feelings it could be dangerous.

Have you tried disabling the cruise control in the menu? The speed limiter mode then shows up and can be enabled, which most likely still has 5mph increments. You may find this a useful interim workaround.

The other obvious differences are:
You have to keep your foot on the accelerator.
The radar won't slow the car as you approach a vehicle.
You have to enable it at the start of each drive, as well as toggling on and off on the steering wheel.
It can be overridden to go faster by pressing the accelerator fully down.

Personally I hate the single press 5 mph increments in cruise control or speed limiter mode, as the 1mph increments allows you to avoid repeated slowing and speeding up again when you're unable to overtake a car ahead that's only slightly slower. It's just a personal preference rather than right or wrong.

I suspect the long press for 5mph increments will become intuitive and easy to use without being distracting once you've used it for a while.

Probably also worth saying I won't set it at round numbers, if the limit is 70 I set at 72 etc as it overreads slightly.

Funny that, I'm the opposite. If it's 70 I'll set it 68, just to be on the safe, side.

I also prefer the updated 1 mph increments for short presses and I've become a dab hand at hitting 5, or 10, increments with carefully judged long presses.
Whilst liking the fine adjustment, I usually set to round numbers for speed limits, i.e. 40 in 40 mph zone, as I find the MG4 speed indicated to be spot on, unlike every other car I've owned which generally read 5 to 10% high.

In my case I set the cruise to the exact speed limit, as my car seems to read pretty accurately when compared vs GPS speed. (Every other car I've had has under-read ... my Golf GT I would set to 77 for a GPS 70; my Insignia I would set to 75 for a GPS 70).

Maybe the acc should be configurable to whatever speed increments the driver wants? No car has this but it would be an easy software implementation and easy to allow the user to customise.
