I bought an MG5 EV six months ago and absolutely LOVE it with one major caveat!!! The drivers seatbelt constantly will not release. I try every angle and combination of "pulling" techniques to release it so I can drive. It is driving us absolutely crazy. It will randomly work once or twice throughout the day when I get in and out of the car while doing shopping/tasks, then suddenly I am stuck looking like an absolute idiot trying to "jiggle" it to release. You can just imagine how annoying this is and can add up to 15 mins extra time required to do a simple trip to the shops.

We live on a farm where you don't need to put on your seatbelt to just drive 800 ms to the front gate to get the mail but of course it constantly beeps at you if you don't put on your belt. The dealer insists when they look at it there is nothing wrong so says there is nothing they can do.

It is becoming untenable. Any suggestions? PLEASE

Some owners have complained that the seat buckle on the drivers seat on the S5 is placed too low down, on side of the seat 💺 and makes clipping in the seat belt difficult.
Especially if you have a large coat on at the time.
You also want the car to stop “bleeping”, when you want to make small trips around the farm.
So, want about this idea 💡 🤷🏻.
Maybe consider buying one of these seat belt buckle extenders ?.
It may make plugging in the belt much easier and it will fool the car into thinking you DO have the seat belt on ?.
No annoying beeps 👍 as well.
If you take this route, please remember to use your belt on, before doing on the open road though 🙏.
I am in a bit of a dash this morning, so just check the sizes of these before you order one.
I will include a link too an example 👍.

I don't think I would recommend using these buckle extenders off Amazon on the open road, was just reading and couldn't see any mention of safety testing and one of the first review pictures shows the metal snapped.

There are definitely members on here that have used them without issue

An emergency stop is very different to hitting something at speed. It just worries me that there is no mention of any test that they have passed.

If they have been for sale in the US for any length of time I think I would trust them. The slightest hint of them failing and I don't think any supplier would take the chance of a cloud of lawyers descending...

Amazon have been found selling Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the UK that don't meet safety standards. I'm not saying that seatbelt extenders are bad, but one from some unknown brand that has no mention of safety standards and has a review showing a snapped metal part would worry me.

To be fair, @Lovemyev only used that one as an example, it wasn't a recommendation.

@MG Clive

Since the OP has an MG5, rather than an MGS5, should this thread be moved??
Could be that the OP has not updated their profile yet ( we have seen this before of course ) or the post was placed in the wrong section, like that has never happened before, has it 🤣.
Same problem, with a similar suggestion for both models I guess.
I guess one of the admin guys will ask the OP to verify the model and then move the post across if necessary.
No big shake 🙏
