This is what an HS registered in May 2025 looks like after 9,000 km.
I'd rather not comment...

I still have a 1990 Polo 86c, the catalytic converter still looks like new and I had to replace the centre silencer for the first time in 20 years. But not because it was rusted, but because it was cracked. It was made of stainless steel at the factory.
What really worries me is the catalytic converter, which is already rusted. They're usually made of stainless steel, but apparently not at MG 😡

I will send the pictures to MG Germany and ask for a statement.
However, I have little hope that anything useful will come of it.
As with my previous emails.
The only response I ever received was that I should contact the dealer.
But the dealer couldn't do much about the previous problems because he had to contact MG again.
So with MG, it's almost always just going round in circles.

No stainless steel, probably another cost cutting measure at MG design.

Just wondering, do you live by the sea, maybe salty moist air, or maybe were the roads in your area heavily covered with salt by road gritters during freezing winter weather?

I know the absolute shitshow with MG Germany (since I live here as well) - If you write them an Email you will only receive answers that sound like they are either AI generated or absolute standart stuff. The problem is the Agent model in Germany, therefore if a dealer wants to perform work on your car he has to ask MG first, otherwise he risks not getting paid for his work (ridiculous in my opinion).

What really helped me was to find a good dealer that knows MG well. I can highly recommend MG Reschke in Bad Kreuznach if you live in that area. They know the MG warranty very well and should hook you up relatively soon.

With other dealers it was a nightmare..

I went to the garage yesterday and showed the mechanic the photos; he didn’t even look at the car itself.
He said there was nothing that could be done and that it wasn’t really that bad.
I then asked him to show me a car in his yard where the exhaust was so rusted after 10 months. We then looked at a few other makes that were 2 to 3 years old. Not a single one had such a rusted exhaust. Certainly not the catalytic converter. Of course, some had a bit of rust on the pipes or clamps, but not to that extent.
I then wanted to make a bet with him that the exhaust wouldn’t last until the first MOT in 2028, but he didn’t take me up on it 😉
I’ll still be writing to MG anyway.
Unfortunately, your garage is a bit far away, @jamakr4. Back then, after the purchase, I had to wait 5 months until they managed to update the infotainment system. The car was in the workshop for almost 14 days because, after the update in December 2025, the 12V battery kept discharging. It then took them 7 days to reinstall the BCM software. After that, it worked.
They have to consult with MG headquarters over every little thing.
OTA for the HS? It doesn’t exist and probably never will... Even my wife’s cheap Dacia Spring has already received two OTA updates.
It’s actually a lovely car, but the service is unfortunately (at least in my case) very poor.

@fx860e, yes, we’ve got snow here and they’re gritting the roads, but even so, this shouldn’t be happening after just 10 months and one winter.

Well, at least that is good news in a way (seems to only affect your car so when they fix it should be long term). Seems QA was on lunch when you exhaust was In for the final inspection after production..

Service is horrible but honestly as a previous Mercedes customer I would say it's all most on the same level but cheaper. Even if Reschke is a bit far away from you, I would still contact them and send them an email with the pictures and just ask them what they would do as a shop. If they say they would replace it that could be an argument to include in your mail to MG to complain about your local service partner (they seem to take these kind of complains a bit more serious).

Another good partner for MG in NRW is Auto Schirmer in Paderborn (according to one of my buddies driving an MG4). The worst MG partners seem to be the big chains that sell MG aside with 6 other brands like the big VW chains.

I've just had a crawl under my car, a January '25 model with 21,000 km.
There's no sign of any rust and the big back box is still bright and shiny.
I think you need to push your problem as a one off case that should be dealt with under the warranty.
As an aside, I know in some places in Germany they apply salt solution instead of grit. It is supposed to be more efficient, but that possibly means more efficient at promoting rust. Could this be a factor in your case?
