He doesn't half bang on about that bloody badge, doesn't he!!
lol "but as I say..."

He's right about one thing though, it would have made so much more sense to have the rearview camera display in the mirror. I drove a transit van that had that a few weeks back and it was an excellent idea, especially as it's ingrained muscle memory to look at that when you want to check behind you.

So, the general concensus seems to be in most of the reviews so far that it's a good car let down by atrocious rear view visibility, lack of space under the front seats for rear view passengers and a complete absence of buttons. Oh, and the lack of an MG badge . My biggest issue would probably be with the lack of buttons. There's very little worse than driving down anything less than a billiard table smooth road whilst trying to prod an icon on a screen and attempting to keep your attention on the road!

I'm going to hazard a guess that the "fidgety" ride described might be down to the larger wheels of the Performance model, as opposed to the 19" wheels with, presumably, slightly higher profile tyres on the LR and Standard models. A test drive in each model may prove or disprove that.

I think the Performance model seems a bit OTT, certainly for me, so hopefully when I get my test drive it'll be in the LR version, as that's the one I've been eyeing up. Oh, and with the grey interior!

Electrifying pointed out the logic in not having the MG badge on the steering wheel at least.
That would apparently mean having to do the crash testing all over again (and paying for it again!)

Lol for people who debadge they could care less what badge it comes with. Also when i had my previous car its all people wanted to look at and are obsessed with. Problem solved by having a badge no one this side of the world has seen 😂

Why should MG do crash testing all over again for a badge. The people that care about badges and street credibility are not the target audience.

I'll give it a month or two and AliExpress will soon be selling stick on MG badges in multi colours 😁

Exactly.
For the curious - The crash testing would need to be done because it would make a different shaped dent in the crash dummy's face, which may make a difference to any injuries received by a human driver.

Whilst the IM5 compares well in equipment to say a BYD Seal, given its dimensions and positioning in China it could have gone up against the likes of the Merc EQE and BMW i5 with the equipment that's available in the Chinese market models.
Perhaps as has been said, maybe that's a leap too far for MG, but when you look at some of the other similar size cars available in China, such as the stunning Avatr 12 - it was rumoured that it along with its SUV version were supposed to be launched here possibly this year, it shows how far ahead China is when it comes to incar tech!
Perhaps as has been said, maybe it would be a leap too far for MGUK. Let's face it they struggle to handle customer issues with their budge range of cars - high revving engines on their Hybrid models when going up hills! That's an issue I notice on my MG3 Hybrid+...pity, as the rest of the car is quite good, and as I always maintain, incredible value for money particularly on the Trophy version I've got!

Regarding the Top Gear review. Some of these, so called "professional" car reviewers, make me laugh. It's purely their opinion. Other reviewers may well like it.
I do watch reviews, but on the whole, prefer to make my own mind up. 🙂👍
Did their Tesla Model 3 review say "buttonless hellscape"? If not, then there's a serious lack of consistency in the reviews.

The comments about the ride are concerning, it is a bit of a weakness of recent MGs, my MG4 is great but the ride is the weakest bit, every last bump shudders through the car. Perhaps they will improve it.

Although it is quite ironic in some senses if the ride isn't great - from what I've read, car reviewers are mainly responsible for the modern trend to have enormous wheels, low profile tyres and the prioritisation of handling over ride. Most people's priorities are quite different.

I haven't seen consistent reviews lately of any car, so probably they are just the same.
Fact is, I will never buy another car with the Tesla screen approach. I want to keep my eyes on the road when I need to adjust. That is not going to happen when I have to look down on a screen...
And since the dealers stay the same, another MG is a no go for me.
