MG IM5 information & reviews

I haven't seen consistent reviews lately of any car, so probably they are just the same.
Fact is, I will never buy another car with the Tesla screen approach. I want to keep my eyes on the road when I need to adjust. That is not going to happen when I have to look down on a screen...
And since the dealers stay the same, another MG is a no go for me.

Agree about the Tesla. Although l Don't mind a middle screen. As long as I've also got, another screen directly in front of me, too. At least the MGs have got a few physical buttons. The latest Tesla' s haven't even got indicator stalks, that's crazy. 🙄🤪

Unfortunately the IM5 doesn't have any buttons either, although it does have a couple of stalks - one for indicators etc and I believe the other is for cruise control functions.

To be honest I could live without any physical buttons, not ideal but I could.
Particularly if the rest of the car was great. But definitely couldn't live with, no screen directly in front of the driver and no indicator stalks. But that's just me. 🙂👍

Capped at 167 mph. 3.2 seconds 741bhp performance version at 45k. Insane. Makes me wonder if that architecture could go in a large coupe or Super MG. 2 speed tranny MG should look into

I think people can live with almost anything - the question is what is the tolerance for going through the uncomfortable dissonance of adapting to changes.

There are various things - like lack of buttons, stalks, driver's displays - that provoke so much discomfort on first encounter that a test drive or two cannot overcome. Yet, there are millions of drivers safely driving with some/all of these.

The challenge for manufacturers who depart from the norms is how to get people to give themselves time to adapt.

For me, the question I ask is: has this change been made to make life better for the driver or to cut costs for the manufacturer? If it is the former, I make an effort, if the latter I reject it almost instantly.

My perception with Tesla at least, is they want to cut costs. Which is why I never have considered one.

This drivetrain under a Cyberster mk2 would be totally licence-threatening!

Also - Affinity prices have landed, knocking almost £6500 off the base model IM5.

That Affinity deal looks incredible. I must admit, I had thought about joining the MG Owners Club some time ago, but never got around to it. I think I may just go for it now!

The MG owner's club route seems the easiest, but I don't think you qualify for Affinity until you've been a member for 3 months.

You can access all this info yourself (y)
Unfortunately until I've been a member of a qualifying group (i.e. in my case the MG Car Club) for a minimum of 3 months, I can't register on the MG Affinity scheme so can't access the enquiries section. Only 2 months and 29 days to go..... :)

You can register an account using any option (or at least you could when I did it).

This is the part I mean. I don't know whether ticking the box (which would be telling porkies at the moment) would trigger the enquiry invalid or bring down the wrath of the MGOC on me! I didn't want to risk it.

I suppose I'm not actually intending to order anything - yet...
