MG IM6 - A Smart Electric SUV with Style and Substance
Overview and Lineage

The MG IM6 is a fully electric compact SUV developed by IM Motors, MG’s premium EV sub-brand under SAIC Motor. It shares the same platform and technology as the IM5 executive saloon, but wraps it in a taller, more SUV-friendly body. The IM6 brings MG's design forward with a focus on practicality, tech, and modern style.

Design and Trim Variants
The IM6 is offered in multiple trims to suit different driving needs:
  • Standard Range - Rear wheel drive, 75 kWh battery, approximately 217 kW (295 PS), 450 Nm torque. WLTP range is around 300 miles, with 0-62 mph in about 6.9 seconds.
  • Long Range - Rear wheel drive, 100 kWh battery, approximately 300 kW (408 PS), 500 Nm torque. WLTP range is around 440 miles, with 0-62 mph in about 5 seconds.
  • Performance - Dual motor all wheel drive, 100 kWh battery, around 553 kW (742 PS), 802 Nm torque. 0-62 mph in around 3.3 seconds. WLTP range is around 355 miles.
All trims benefit from an 800 volt architecture and ultra fast DC charging capability (10-80 percent in around 17 minutes). The interior features a sweeping 26.3 inch panoramic display, supported by a 10.5 inch centre touch screen. High quality materials, generous headroom, and a flexible boot make the IM6 well suited to families and tech-oriented buyers.

Launch and Availability
The IM6 debuted alongside the IM5 at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and has since been made available in key markets including the UK, Europe, China, and India. UK pricing starts at approximately 38,950 GBP for the Standard Range, about 43,495 GBP for the Long Range, and around 47,495 GBP for the Performance trim. These prices position the IM6 competitively against other premium electric SUVs, offering compelling range and performance.

Reviews and Customer Impressions
Automotive reviewers have praised its commanding presence, advanced styling, and feature rich cabin. While some driving dynamics reviewers noted it lacks the agility of traditional petrol SUVs, its comfort, technology, and swift acceleration are strong selling points. Owners report that it delivers excellent value and daily usability, applauding the long range, fast charging, and spacious interior.

Summary
The MG IM6 extends MG’s EV lineup into the compact SUV segment with flair. With a choice of range, performance, and price, it caters to a wide audience. It blends smart tech, generous space, and strong performance, and stakes MG’s claim in the electric compact SUV market with a modern, family-friendly offering.

Any ideas when test drives start?
Dealers are due to get their demonstrators from around the middle of next week. They'll need PDI, valet, registration plates, so hopefully if they arrive early-ish then they may be available to test drive from the weekend (6th/7th September).

Happily, we've got branches in Blackpool, Burnley and Chorley. So you're nice and local for a test drive.

I drove the MG IM5 and MG IM6 down at Millbrook Proving Ground yesterday, and was very impressed indeed. For me, the MG IM5 Long Range is probably the pick of the bunch (in terms of pricing, range, and kit), but the Performance variants were quite compelling to drive.

I hit 130mph on the bowl, and it was still pulling strongly. If I'd not had a track marshall heading the convoy, I'd have kept going :D

But then Miles few will be buying it for track day and get to use smooth tarmac. But driving their cars on British pot holed roads, and its there were reviewers feedback carries value.

I've just driven the IM6 Launch Edition over 140 miles today, over fells and narrow country roads around the Trough of Bowland.

I found the ride compliant and comfortable, not too bumpy (despite 21" wheels), and roadholding was great.

Popped it onto an Ionity charger and went from 9% to 79% charge in 17 minutes. Top power was 345kW (it was rated as a 350kW charger).

Top speed I saw (on a private section of road) was 133mph. Still pulling strongly!

You all are in for a big surprise.I got my IM6 last July, There were some teething problems at first, but all is well now. I think that this being a new car, especially in Thailand, that much of the infrastructure was not completed. No one at the dealership knew much about the car in order to instruct me a little. In addition, the owner’s manual is pretty much content free. It’s about 80% what you can’t do, 15%what you can do, and 2% how to do it. The remainder is just garbage. All that said, I love the car. It’s comfortable, very quiet, and a veritable rocket. Some real surprises, an e-Sim with a 5 year subscription allows internet access as well as a hot spot for your phone to use. The LKA (lane keeping assistance) Pilot system is very close to self driving, very close! Impressive! The dash is devoid of any switchgear, everything is done through the two touchscreens. There are only five buttons, a door latch release on each armrest, and a door lock/unlock on the driver’s door. The only mechanical release I can find is the frunck. The incredible array of settings is impressive though a bit intimidating at first. I appreciate the fact that all of the variables are available, even if most of them are set-and-forget. For compare, it cost £32K, the cheap one. Enjoy folks and join the IM6 forum if you get one.

There's a mechanical door release in the rear of each door storage pocket too
