Just out of curiosity I have uploaded MG UKs privacy policy to google gemini and asked it to summarise the stuff in it. This was the response, take it as you wish but it only used the publically available privacy policy I downloaded to prepare this no other data source. I am sure if I were to do the same for VW, Hyundai etc it would be very similar.

MG Motor UK maintains several privacy policies depending on whether you are using their website, visiting a dealership, or using their "iSMART" connected car services.
Summary of the Privacy Policy

MG Motors UK collects data to manage vehicle sales, warranties, and customer support. The policy generally covers three categories:

* Identity & Contact Data: Name, address, email, and phone number.
* Vehicle Data: VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), registration details, and warranty history.
* Service & Transaction Data: Records of MOTs, repairs, and parts ordered through authorized dealers.

The data is used to fulfill contractual obligations (like roadside assistance), send service reminders, and—if you provide explicit consent—marketing communications. They share this information with their dealer network and third-party service providers (like IT and telecommunications partners).

Does it report car use details back to MG servers?

Yes, if your vehicle is equipped with MG iSMART (connected services), the policy explicitly mentions that car use and status details are reported back to MG servers.
According to the "Data Protection Notice for Connected Vehicles" and the "EU Data Act" disclosures:

* Data Collected: MG collects vehicle status, location (GPS), battery status, diagnostic data, and engine performance details.
* Specific Use Details: If you use the iSMART app or the onboard navigation, MG processes real-time data such as current mileage, energy consumption, charging history, and even "destination" information for navigation services.
* Storage & Transmission: Data is initially stored in the car's control units and then transferred to MG servers (historically located in Paris, France, for European/UK users) to provide the app services.
* Purpose: This reporting is used for vehicle diagnostics, maintenance notifications, product development, and the functional operation of the iSMART app.
Control Over Your Data
* Right to Object: You have the right to object to this processing, though doing so usually disables the connected features of the car.
* Data Portability: Under the UK GDPR and the Data Act, you can request a copy of the data generated by your vehicle (often available in CSV format) through their Data Protection Officer at [email protected].
* Anonymization: MG states they aim to anonymize data where possible for "product development and quality improvement" to ensure it cannot be linked back to you personally.

Storage & Transmission: Data is initially stored in the car's control units and then transferred to MG servers (historically located in Paris, France, for European/UK users) to provide the app services.

So I wonder what happens if those servers are unavailable?
Once the control unit's buffers reach capacity?

I suspect that’s the issue which is why some see it as fixed but when the buffer fills the issues start. Would fit with my journey on Friday as I drove 30 mins to my destination and when I came out nothing worked properly.

However this is specific to uk and Europe and we are seeing people report from all over the world so probably more a china based issue.

My MGS5 EV has been like this since Friday. Still the same. Will try turning the data off to see what happens.

This infotainment system lag should not trigger AEB. Is your front collision sensitivity set to the default High? Reducing it to Medium or Low should drastically reduce such false emergency braking.
Well, i'm putting it down to that, i have had phantom breaking before but usually on a right hand bend while overtaking another vehicle. My situation was a completely empty (Zero ) cars and on a 3 mile poker straight section of motorway, i drive that route daily and never had an issue....EVER. So i'm calling an issue due to issue.
Used the yesterday morning 30min drive and seemed back to normal, until stopping and driving again, full system was having a freakout, no radio, android auto not working at all (i use wired only) Apple carplay not working, heated seats, steering wheel and cabin heating all lagging/not working. 360 cameras completely off.
I will try the DATA OFF temporary fix today.

Just tested mine, the infotainment system and 360 camera is still laggy after switching the data connection back on. I had a very disconcerting drive yesterday with the 360 camera system switching on and off automatically while driving at speed and at one point the car announced random speed warning alerts even though I had MG pilot custom settings engaged. It’s not acceptable really that a data glitch can cause such driver distraction and confusion when the vehicle is in motion.

My infotainment system suddenly became really sluggish on the way home today, was fine on the outward trip. I tried 3 forced reboots using the hold home button for 10 seconds but the same. Reversing camera took 5 seconds to come on, navigation 5 minutes! CarPlay not playing music at all.

I have got back and turned it off and will leave it for a few hours and try again, have also rebooted my iPhone just in case it was that causing it.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

John
I started having a problem on Friday. The screen goes black, volume control not working, sat nav takes about five minutes to start, reverse camera froze today, general sluggishness. I've done two resets and they haven't worked.

Do we have any info on what's going on because mine is the same has been perfectly fine until 2 days ago now the screen is so slow the reverse camera doesn't kick in .Surely MG are aware by now .

MG Motor Uk have just put up an advert on Facebook for the S5 and S6. I have just posted this comment I suggest others do the same as there is nothing like a social media post to get a reaction.

“MG UK would you care to comment on all the issues your MG S5 and S6 customer are having with defective infotainment systems since Friday? Reports from all over the world of the same thing I am experiencing with very slow lag on the display, nav taking 4 minutes to load, reversing cameras taking 5 seconds or longer then coming on while driving at 50mph? Forums and Facebook reported from all over the globe reporting this issue.”

I doubt anyone is in MG UK's office over the weekend.

I have done so about 5 minutes ago.

If an update has been done then new version number(s) should appear in the interface somewhere (not sure where this is on the MGS5).
Hi I’m new to this forum, I have an S5 and like others last few days it’s been glitchy etc cameras not working. Is it a software update that MG have done? Is there a fix for it? Many thanks in advance! 🙂

Although there are various suggestions for a temporary fix the software seems to be recovering on its own after 48 hours.

Hey, so a lot of MGS5 owners are facing the same issue since yesterday. I turned off the data on the car and the sluggish screen is responding as it should. Toggling the 360 camera was also smooth and carplay and android (wired) was also smooth. However I have not tried the wireless carplay and android auto as yet. It seems there is an issue with the MG sever.
