Mine has been doing it since Friday and still is. I'm not annoyed at the issue so much, more the lack of communications for something which is safety impactive.

There will be people across this global organisation (Inc. service / support teams) over the weekend.

Additionally, whilst I'm speculating; if this is something server side, there will be proactive monitoring tools in place assessing performance (or so we hope).

At this stage, I'd just expect a formal communication about it considering the scale of impact!

I hope you haven't been driving your car then as obviously in your opinion the car isn't safe.

There could well be and when MG Uk's office opens Monday morning we might get a response but as MG only communicates through the dealers for customer problems we'll have to wait until the dealer's head offices are open.

You're right, I haven't been driving. There's no way I'm putting my wife or child in the car which doesn't control lights correctly, randomly shows reverse cameras when driving forwards and displays incorrect speed signs.

Yes, these are generally considered driving aids (apart from the lights), but they should not cause issue, give incorrect information or mislead.

I'm sorry but the point around only being able to communicate via dealers is BS. For a start, many are open on Sunday and secondly there is an app which has a notification ability and social channels that they could put messages out on. This is GLOBAL after all.

In fact. If MG can only communicate via their dealer network, then they would not have been able to post 2hrs ago on X, advertising the MG S5.

I know by virtue of having these forums, there are many fans here (I'm on my 2nd MG EV and love them too), but I'm not sure why the lack of communication is being defended to be honest. I think it at least reasonable to put out an acknowledgement message and address any safety concerns, before the majority of people drive to work in the morning.

As another forum user has said. I'd suggest we get as many replies on their post as possible to get some traction.

It isn't so much that the lack of communication is being defended, it is simply being explained. Marketing posts are usually scheduled in advance so staff are likely not working today.

There seem to be expectations of a level of communication that I really haven't ever seen from any make. I get it, people are frustrated and annoyed, but having unrealistic expectations of contact from MG/dealers is just going to cause more unhappiness as far as I can see.

On Monday I suspect nobody will be able to get through to their dealers due to the volume of calls and this will be complained about again.

Temporary work arounds have been listed on these forums. A proper fix will take patience.

This started Friday morning, so there would have been notification prior to the weekend.

I work for an organisation who employs just 7000 people over one County. Even they have people either on or on-call over the weekend. If a global issue such as this doesn't deserve a call into the office and a comms representative response, then what would? There would/should be proactive monitoring taking place in any case.

As I said, I'm not being unrealistic by expecting a fix, just acknowledgement and some information.

Reddit is looking interesting on this topic now. It seems people in Singapore have got some response from MG about the communications box upgrades (ironic, I know).

My wireless AA is ok
Been Spotify playing all day
  • Accuracy: While generally accurate, SSR technology is not infallible and cannot replace driver observation, as per the UK Highway Code.

Similar problem for me. Three times this weekend (uk) while driving the screen has gone blank while driving, then the camera display came on for over a minute while I was driving at 30 mph. Really odd.

I started that Reddit thread, and a commentor linked this forum. So it has officially gone full circle I suppose!

We are in touch with a senior engineer at Eurokars (the main dealer here), but other than gathering logs, he is unable to do anything as well. The workaround was crowd-sourced and tested from the 50 S5 owners I have in my groupchat, as well as info I got from you guys and Reddit.

Initial hypothesis back on 13 Feb was that it's an OTA update to TBOX gone awry. Now, not sure. Update checker gone wrong? Unable to reach SAIC servers to upload regular diagnostic data? Your guess is as good as mine.

My software versions are the same as @stevedee posted in December.

To save you looking here his are.

Another thought.

If it is an OTA update that has gone wrong and you turn off the data etc. how does the car receive the solution from MG?

It might be an idea to turn it back on again when the car's not being used.
I don't appear to have any of the issues anyone has been experiencing - only difference to sw version above for me is I am on 1100R28....anyone had the issue with my sw release?

I have now disabled on-line services in the menu, has totally resolved the pinging the servers, everything working as it should, without the app and maps though. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and can reactivate.

My comment on that FB advert:

Prior to this weekend, I would have recommended the S5, which I have had for 8 months, but it would seem that every S5 in the world has been brought to its knees by some central computer or comms fault.

I would now advise people to steer well clear, not only of the car, but the brand. There are so many competitors who produce cars which just work, why would anyone buy one which can be crippled at the press of a button in Ningde?

This is why we are taught to fear Chinese manufacturing. They can, and apparently do, render their equipment useless or dangerous.

That's why Huawei was banned from 5G networks. The Chinese just cannot be trusted not to access their product remotely and remove it from service.

Mine since Friday also. Just driven 120 miles to my work. Car performed as usual, but head unit kept blacking out, radio off Android on. Nav not available. Just hope it can be sorted this week. Rather annoying because car is faultless otherwise and pretty efficient.

Makes you wonder what the long term prognosis is. If lack of comms can cause these problems then what happens when the modem goes obsolete like the old 2G and now some 3G ones are? And what happens when MG decide they don't want to maintain the service, or want you to pay for it?

That is easy to answer, than it would be the same Situation as now with deactivated Data Connection. Works perfect, only the things Like Ismart App and Internat Navigation will Not work.

Hey, so a lot of MGS5 owners are facing the same issue since yesterday. I turned off the data on the car and the sluggish screen is responding as it should. Toggling the 360 camera was also smooth and carplay and android (wired) was also smooth. However I have not tried the wireless carplay and android auto as yet. It seems there is an issue with the MG sever.
Update:
The MG dealership guys recommended to do a factory reset on the infotainment system. I tried that and seems to be working fine for now. However I will have to test it further tomorrow for longer to be absolutely sure.

Not sure, I fully agree. I am not on any social media because it is greed and/or too large of an ego that makes people use your information. Musk, Zuckerberg, Trump are not Chinese.
Anyway I respect your view.
Not every Chinese company is bad, and I do not believe everything that the West is telling me.

Interesting, R25 is the latest I have seen in the UK.
I’m in the U.K. got the car at the start of this year. Had loads of problems with the dealer (absolutely shambles) and I said if it wasn’t on the latest version I’d go mad. It came on this version which as you say is later than what most people have cited on this forum
