Did this yesterday and it certainly improved things. Haven't said this, I am still a little sceptical.

When do you got. the R28? During this Weekend

or before?
Came with the car originally from the start of this year.

I work for an organisation who employs just 7000 people over one County. Even they have people either on or on-call over the weekend. If a global issue such as this doesn't deserve a call into the office and a comms representative response, then what would? There would/should be proactive monitoring taking place in any case.
Sadly the car industry isn't like a typical organisation. There are 3 separate businesses in the chain: your dealer, MG UK and SAIC/MG China. Your relationship is with your dealer, not the others.

Vertically integrated (like Tesla) would indeed be better but it isn't the reality of today's car industry.

Lots gets delayed and missed and miscommunicated between the various parties.
As I said, I'm not being unrealistic by expecting a fix, just acknowledgement and some information.
I think it is unrealistic, particularly with MG. Communication is one of their weakest points. Information tends to eventually seep out via dealers over time.

Hopefully this will all get rapidly resolved. One of the silver linings would be if problems like this wake up the industry to their fundamental issues of bad service, failing technology and lack of honesty with customers about how modern cars work (or don't).

It needs to change, owning a car is stuck in a 20th century experience (for most).

The MG dealership guys recommended to do a factory reset on the infotainment system.
To me, this sounds more like a rote response than anything based on knowledge or experience.

Whenever you report a fault on consumer electronics, they always start by telling you to do a software update and factory reset, however much of a pain in the arse that causes (such as losing all your Wi-Fi passwords, settings, cache and so on).

I would love it to turn out that your car is now fine, and if it is, I will follow suit, but at the moment it just sounds like a local dealership shooting in the dark and wanting to say something rather than nothing.

After a complete factory reset, the S5 worked correctly until the next restart. This pattern is extremely typical of a firmware bug that reactivates at boot after service initialisation.
It is not a problem with:
  • cache
  • user profile
  • settings
  • CarPlay
If it were local, the factory reset would have permanently resolved it.

At first start-up after reset:
  • The system is "clean"
  • It has not yet initialised all services
  • It has not yet completed handshake with ADAS modules/cameras/iSMART
After the following restart:
  • All modules are loaded.
  • The service causing the problem is reactivated.
  • The slowness returns immediately.
This is consistent with:
  • Software regression.
  • Error in graphics process management.
  • Camera video driver conflict.
The fact that the 360° cameras freeze shows that it is not just infotainment. The video control unit is involved.
Similarly, the fact that the instrument panel is not affected either means that:
  • The communication bus is healthy.
  • The vehicle network is stable.
  • There is no electrical problem.
  • There is no 12V battery problem.
  • The problem is confined to the head unit CPU or the firmware that controls it.

Mine is still not working properly. I connected my mobile hotspot and could see the car consuming data, so I wonder what it is doing?

A complete guess and maybe wishful thinking from me...but what if it is downloading an update and system performance / resources are being impacted due to download/installation?

It would explain the random resolution that some have mentioned. Can anyone who had the issue and that randomly it resolved itself confirm their software versions?

Storage & Transmission: Data is initially stored in the car's control units and then transferred to MG servers (historically located in Paris, France, for European/UK users) to provide the app services.

So I wonder what happens if those servers are unavailable?
Once the control unit's buffers reach capacity?
That's a very good question, as people have reported that turning the data off usually resolves most issues. I connected my phone's hotspot today, and the car was using data continuously, so it could be trying to connect to servers that are not responding.

Can I force the car to use a fast WiFi to download?
You could try, but we don't know that the car is trying to download anything; it could be trying to upload data to non-responsive servers? If you do try it, please report back with your findings.

What are the settings to do so? WLAN?

I can do it easily because the Starlink Mini is in the car anyway...

Yes, WLAN. That's what I used to connect my phone's hotspot. If you are using Starlink you may be able to monitor upload/download?

May be unconnected but I have seen a number of people posting on the Ohme charging FB group saying they are getting messages saying their BMW cannot currently be set to smart charge and to use the timer on the car instead. Could indicate an AWS issue which the privacy notice for MG says they use.

That is easy to answer, than it would be the same Situation as now with deactivated Data Connection. Works perfect, only the things Like Ismart App and Internat Navigation will Not work.

I'd expect the app to stop working, but the navigation breaking would be very annoying. I'd argue unjustifiable too, because the car was sold with sat nav and there was no mention of it being dependent on MG's good will. Updates, sure, but not for basic functionality.

And how about Android Auto? That seems to be affected too. If that broke it would be a serious issue for me.

Just took a picture, it's still working, no lags or unresponsiveness. Can't tell what version I had before friday, didn't care since everything was fine. As I wrote, I did a factory reset, left the car alone overnight and did 10 sec restart on saturday. Since then it seems fine again.

I'll take a photo of that page before I leave it to its own devices on Starlink.

I will try to do it without a factory reset.

Thank you for checking.

The fact you're on R25 and your other versions are the same as others, blows my theory out of the water. 🤔
