Yes would need a update without it will never get full charged with the DC to DC converter and the 12v lithium battery internal BMS can shut down in the cold and it's expensive just a good quality battery is a good start or a AGM is better
Some modern cars you can use different types of battery but you need to tell the ECU what charge voltage is needed to get the most out of them other cars need to be told even if you swap like-for-like ie fit a new battery to a BMW it will still treat it like a old battery till told it's replaced

I've given it thought and just decided to stick with the OEM battery. No chance of a BMS disconnect event.
