I found the screws supplied with mad flaps from Ali express rust very quickly, so after much searching, I replaced them with these from carbolts.co.uk

Black Stainless Steel Phillips Pan Head Self Tapping Screw - 3.9mm / 16mm /

Black Stainless Steel Flat Washers - M4 / 12mm

Pack of 50 screws and 20 washers

£10.64

I bought a box of mixed size black stainless steel screws form “car bolts” and used them on another outdoor application.
But they started to rust after a few weeks !.
They are either plain mild steel screws or are very poor grade stainless steel.
Keep an eye out on them !.
My son bought a pair of so called stainless steel number plate surrounds for his car.
Within 6 months, there was rust forming on the outer edges of both of the number plate surrounds.

Probably going back a bit here @Lovemyev , but do you remember where you got the screws you swapped them out for in the end? Have they help up well?

Any advice as to supplier/size gratefully received - I've got some mud flaps coming in the post, so figured I may as well get decent fixings from the get go.

Wow ……. That is a “Blast From The Past”.
Let me dig around and I promise to get back to you 👍.
The OEM screws that came with the MG flaps were rubbish.
The black stainless ones are great !.
I left the flaps on the car when I sold it in March 2022.
I have put any on our Gen2 model yet.

I got mine from car bolts

I think they were 13mm but if you remove one of the screws securing the wheel arch trim you can use that as a guide

Also ordered black stainless steel washers as the pan head was slightly smaller than original to give more.

Been on 9 months, no sign of rust.

Yeah - I am pretty sure mine came from Car Bolts as well ??.
The washers are a good idea to spread the load.
I am sure they use to do some with a built in flange washer ( if that makes any sense ).
What about the set from EBay ?.
Various dia and lengths also, with the built in flange washers - ideal !.
This company also sells larger sets as well.
Just check you are happy with the sizes before ordering.
