MG3 Hybrid+ - Rear creaking noise when driving over bumps

In my MG3 trophy, I experienced a very noisy creaking from the rear every time I went over a speed hump, around me there are five high ones on the road into the estate, and crunch as the rear dropped matter how slowly I go. This happened throughout the winter months - now Spring and warmer temperatures have arrived and these creaks have totally disappeared. I presume metal contraction was the issue somehow.

Exactly the same as mine, took it back to MG last week and they had it for a day and said everything is OK, if it's not creaking how do we find the problem

MG is officially aware of the problem with the rear axle squeaking. MG has released a guide for dealers and service networks on how to proceed. Some bolts on the axle assembly need to be replaced, and there is a specific spot that needs to be lubricated with a specific grease. Visit MG and don't be discouraged. I brought this information to MG. When I told them this information (from the importer), they checked it and confirmed that they would resolve the squeaking on the MG3 according to the manufacturer's procedure under the vehicle warranty. Go to the service and don't be deceived! When they verify this problem with the manufacturer, they must accept your claim even without evidence! My MG3 is already waiting for this repair.

Yes, I am from Slovakia, and the repair will be carried out by a local MG dealer in Bratislava. This dealer is part of the international Hedin Automotive (Hedin Group) network, which also operates in the UK. I am currently waiting for replacement parts, and the repair is expected to take place in about a month. I will try to obtain the repair manual for you with the repair instructions, which was reportedly provided directly by MG. However, this manual is available to all MG dealers. Please go to your MG service and ask them to inquire about this issue with the manufacturer.

Is there anything new with the creaking? My car has started creaking too. I hear it most when it rains and it's wet.

I have to travel over several speed humps on my way into the estate where I live. During the winter the rear end produced a bang of scrunchy sound on landing after every speed hump, even though I was travelling very slowly. When the winter months ended, so did any noise coming from the rear end. Happy days I thought, but now the same noises have returned but now only on WET days after driving on rain soaked roads and I arrive at my homely speed humps. Ah well, I'll wait until the service time comes up in September 2025 and report it to the dealer along with a sticking issue with the rotary gear selector.

Sorted at dealership but has returned albeit not as bad 4 months later.

Hi,
as I mentioned earlier, the car was repaired under the vehicle warranty. There is no longer any squeaking from the rear axle, even in heavy rain. I tried to obtain the bulletin related to this issue that MG services have available, but they would not give it to me. They only showed me the bulletin, and I saw that it had several pages, including a step-by-step guide on how to resolve this issue. It specified which lubricant to use and which bolts on the rear axle need to be replaced. Don’t be discouraged. Go to your MG service (or try another one) and tell them that the manufacturer itself has issued guidance for MG services on how to proceed with this global issue. They must be willing to check their internal communication channels with the MG manufacturer. My dealer and service also did not know about this issue, but it was enough when I asked them to look deeper into their internal systems, and they discovered this general problem with the MG3 hybrid and the procedure for fixing it. Only when I pointed it out did they find it there.

My car was taken into the garage last week, and as one of the fixes they did, they followed a bulletin issued by MG to make some changes to the rear end, and it has stopped the knocking and creaking totally. Not sure what they did, but it involved removing the rear bumper and making changes to the back end.

Drive Vauxhall, On the corner of Gypsy Patch lane and the A38 Gloucester Road in Bristol. Its where I bought it from. They have a large MG section, and MG specialist fitters.
