MG4 - How do I turn it off..?

Ok, I give up. 🙂👍
Thats your 5th 'I give up' in this thread yet you appear to come back and tell people its not an issue the next day.

A quick poll of replies in here puts it as an actual issue to 12 out of 14 individuals who have indicated their choice. Statistically, your opinion is an outlier. Embrace it. Telling me (and others) that an issue for them is not an issue for you does nothing to answer the actual question, which leads me (and others now) to believe you just want to argue. This is a public forum of course so you remain welcome to do so. You don't need my permission.

I won't argue, but I will respectfully disagree, and unless you actually can offer a solution beyond "just lock it" I am going to assume you really are giving up.

I wonder what the cost savings are though, if any. Replacing a presumably cheap to make on/off switch with a potentially more expensive pressure switch might not necessarily have been a cost saving. Maybe the cost is comparable but the seat switch is thought to give a higher end feeling?

Personally I don’t mind the MG4’s approach, I don’t mind the music keeps playing as I get out, and I don’t mind the absence of a start button. But I understand others feel differently.
For me, the fact that MG has incorporated an off button 4 screens deep, confirms that it is a function they believe is necessary. So in that sense they have sort of set themselves up for this.

A stupidly simple fix would be to incorporate it in a front screen or immediate swipe/drop down. The car has the capability! Its simply the act of moving a single existing button. One of our software types could bang it out in about 7 minutes.

Regarding the pull down menu ... this is mine, and it does have a Power Off button. (I remembered a red button - I can now confirm that it is for Power Off. I've never used it though).

AAAAAAARGH THEY HAVE DONE IT ON SOMEEE!!!?!

Thats almost more annoying.

@siteguru Can you please confirm with software version you're on? I'll ask my local MG to roll mine back if its a previous version.

SWI69-29558-1100R38 ... mine's an early SE SR. I don't recall if 1100R33 introduced it, but it's certainly there in 1100R38.

And no, I'm not going back outside in the pouring rain just to try it. :p

OK - I tested the Power Off button on the pull down menu. It turned off HVAC and the driver screen, and also turned off all external lights. The courtesy lights came on but went off maybe a minute later. The Infotainment screen remained on though, but I could turn that off (to the clock screen in my case as I have that option set) using the Screen Off button. Getting out of the car didn't change anything.

that is some shonky statistics though, of course people who are annoyed by the lack of a physical button will be over represented in a thread about the issue. That’s like saying 90% of people in the new tyre thread are looking to replace their tyres. But that says nothing about the majority of MG4 owners.

Of course they believe you need to be able to turn off the car, hence the button in the seat.

As to why they haven’t also put in a physical on/off button, only the people at SAIC who made that choice really know why, and they probably based that choice on considerations we will never know. So we can’t objectively say it was wrong or right. All we can say is you are among those who don’t like it, and others are among those who do like it or don’t mind.

Like I said before, there are many other things I would like SAIC to pay an engineer for to fix before they put the off button two clicks deep in the screen instead of four.

Anyone can adapt to anything, but that doesn't mean the changes are an improvement. Adapting to bizarre interfaces and rituals is not something of which I would be proud.

Yes, this might seem like a trivial first-world complaint, but it is always the little things that colour a relationship in the end.

Fascinating to hear that this is a fuss about nothing - when I see the fuss triggered above by mentioning it!

Each to their own. Live long and prosper folks. 😃
