MG4 - How do I turn it off..?

If it annoys you that much, get rid of the car and buy one with a friggin button.
Me: Hey, does anyone know if I can turn this car off?

You : OMG IF YOU HATE IT SO MUCH WHY DON'T YOU JUST BUY A HORSE!!?!?

I have a horse.

that is some shonky statistics though, of course people who are annoyed by the lack of a physical button will be over represented in a thread about the issue. That’s like saying 90% of people in the new tyre thread are looking to replace their tyres. But that says nothing about the majority of MG4 owners.

Of course they believe you need to be able to turn off the car, hence the button in the seat.

As to why they haven’t also put in a physical on/off button, only the people at SAIC who made that choice really know why, and they probably based that choice on considerations we will never know. So we can’t objectively say it was wrong or right. All we can say is you are among those who don’t like it, and others are among those who do like it or don’t mind.

Like I said before, there are many other things I would like SAIC to pay an engineer for to fix before they put the off button two clicks deep in the screen instead of four.
Anecdotal data is anecdotal. This is a casual forum and I am not alone. Thats good enough for me.

It is interesting that you both acknowledge that SAIC could do many things to improve the car. Whilst simultaneously insisting that the particular query I have, does not matter.

So to your point it's either perfect and we all need to adapt, or there are some kinks worth asking about which are more (or less!) important to various individuals in here.

You can't be almost pregnant.

I never said it didn’t matter, I just don’t have it as high up on my list of niggles as you, it seems to be the main issue for you.

Tried my off button today, and yes it does work, but the message had me puzzled, something like,
"activity will be available when you start" I thought that referred to it switching off. Tried all sorts of things but still got that same message. I think I'm getting old!

An interesting discussion that i have enjoyed reading, so will add my thoughts.

The “sit to start” seemed to me like a clever gimmick dreamed up by the marketing department to make the car different. It certainly is something people notice.

I have two problems with the way it works. First is about waiting in the drivers seat. I turn things off, then i shift slightly in the seat and everything turns on again. I find that if i turn off the car while I am still inside, it turns back on as i get out.

My main reason for turning the car off is to turn off the lights, which has been mentioned. I would like an easier button for that.

As for a button for on/off,, I think that might involve some discussion and a new definition for what is on and off. My Tv used to have a switch to turn on and off. I now use my remote to turn off my TV. My sister does the same, then turns off the switch on the power bar, and also on the wall, because to her the TV is still on in standby mode.

With the MG, what is off? Even off, the app acceses details, charging is accessible, etc. The next MG might have a button that says Off, but it still might not meet your needs if it turns off the wrong parts of the system.

Unfortunately there isn't a tone button, everything I type is with my tongue firmly in my cheek. I am a little bemused by how much traction the question has got, folks seem to take it as an affront to them personally that someone else is asking for help on solving what is a reasonably (I think anyway) ordinary question.

I have said often, for what you pay this car represents extraordinary value, I do love it. The challenge is for MG to keep it simple to manage costs, I get it. I appreciate your replies.

The only way to really turn it OFF, is undo the -ve battery terminal.
Even the bloody battery terminals on the MG4 are a pain in the backside. Straddling a support beam/brace making it difficult to get a spanner in and moving. Sorry, did I just raise another issue which isn't ideal on this car, i'll have the torch burners after me if I keep on like this.
