MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

yep I would go so far as to say its the same issue and yep it changes with speed almost rotational related but what... They did have mine for a few days and did 100% acknowledge it but also said that MG didnt have any known "recalls or knowledge articles". Again they said they thought steering rack and said they pulled that apart but couldnt determine anything. I too have to trust they did what they said. There was one online article where I think someone said wheel bearings was their cause and that had it not been fixed would have got worse until failure. As I said mine has done 55,00kms and is no better or worse and remains the same.

It is minor in the scheme of things as you say but I am also curious.. Perhaps something touching aka a cable tie ;) , but after 55,000 kms you would think that would have worn away :). Mine has remained the same and consistent, harder to detect above a certain speed and more noticeable at slower speeds. Probably still there at higher speeds but road noise cancels it at least to my hearing.. If its any consolation there are quite a few with that same ticking sound so maybe a batch or two? who knows. I also suffered from the vibration issue around 100kph and even after they rotated wheels, I rotated wheels for tyre wear, they said they did a wheel balance etc, etc from new, that has finally been eliminated when I did my first tyre replacement.. so looks like the original Bridgestones were the cause of that all along.

I'm curious too.
But because of warranty and ev's are quite different....I'm even scared the jack the car up... apparently these things weigh about two tonne with the batteries... you can feel that a bit when you drive they feel a bit heavy.
If you did want to meet up and discuss maybe we could... I'm not sure we would get anywhere but I'm willing to give it a go.
I'm in Swan View

Yeh always wondered about how to go about jacking one up?? interested to be able to do a simple tyre rotation but... Can definitely catch up and trade noises, experiences :) . I live pretty much minutes away as I am in Jane Brook :)

The weight is listed as 1635 - 1748 kg, depending on version, for Australian MG4s.

In regards to lifting there is a thread with some more links to other threads here;

As mentioned in the threads linked to above you can also still use the old scissor jack, but I think we’ve moved on from those as a modern society, if you want to jack up the car surely it’s worth getting a proper hydraulic jack and those plugs. A scissor jack is only better than having nothing at all I’d say.

I got the same issue, checked the front wheels, and both sound like this:

I finally have some peace and quiet! Both front wheel bearings have been replaced by MG, and that annoying noise is officially gone. It was a bit of a saga to get there, though.

The "Long Story Short":

At the first appointment, the service "checked" the bearings and told me they were perfectly fine. They claimed the noise was just rusty brake rotors, which they cleaned. Surprise, surprise—the noise was still there the moment I drove away.

I went back for a second appointment and insisted on staying. I was invited into the workshop where the KFZ-Meister (Master Mechanic) tried to convince me—again—that the bearings were fine and the "rusty brakes" were the culprit.

This time, I pushed back. I knew they were wrong, so I proposed a simple test: "Remove the brake pads, put the wheels back on, and spin them. If the noise is still there, it isn't the brakes."

They weren't exactly thrilled with me telling them how to do their jobs (they actually kicked me out of the workshop at that point!), but they did the test. And... TADA! Without the brake pads in the way, they reproduced the exact noise I’d captured on video.

The Result: They submitted the claim to MG, it was approved almost instantly, and a few weeks later, the new bearings were installed.

The Lesson: If you're hearing that specific noise, don't take "no" for an answer. You might have to firmly "convince" your MG agent to actually run a proper diagnostic and file the claim. For reference, my car was just a few days shy of its 3rd birthday with only 24,000km on the clock.

Yep, did this on my driveway a year or two back, easy enough to identify once you locate the source of the ticking.
I replaced the drivers side bearing myself which cured the noise, but then the passengers side started doing it a few months later:mad:
It was less noticeable, maybe because it was further from my ears, so I just left it.

It seems to have cured itself now, don't notice any noise at all. 😊
