As some of you know I have just traded in my MG4 Trophy for a MGS5 Trophy and have asked for my first impressions. Please bear in mind I've had the car for less than 24 hours. For more longer term owners impressions have a look at the MGS5 forum.
I had a test drive on one a few months ago and although the interior and software were a step up from the 4's the suspension seemed a bit choppy. Also the price differential between my 4 and the S5 was too much at nearly £17k. (I'm a cash buyer). Then my local dealer started to heavily discount the price by nearly £10k for a pre-registered one with less than 10 miles on the clock and was offering £2k more for mine so the price differential came down to £10k.
It was an offer I couldn't refuse especially as my arthritic knees were starting to protest when getting in and out of the 4.
The ride is now a lot better than I remember. I think the problem was the demonstrator hadn't been through the PDI checks and the tyres were still over-inflated for storage purposes.
It's easier to get in and out of for me and the driver's seat has a lot more adjustment available. The software is familiar but different. When I got it home I spent an hour sat on the drive just "playing" with the settings.
The acceleration is more refined and you don't get the initial punch unless it's in Sport mode and the ability to save some custom settings is great.
The mats from my 4 are usable in the S5 until I get some new ones also the up-to-the-front seat boot liner fits so the dogs are happy although I've had to buy a dog ramp as the boot lip is higher. Hopefully they will get used to it quickly.
All in all I'm glad I took the decision to upgrade from the MG4 bearing in mind the S5 is a small SUV and the MG4 is more of a hot-ish hatchback.
