MG5 150000 miles in 3 years

Hi everyone
I'm only going to update this every 10k which is 8-10wks
Few questions on battery health mainly . As I near 200k I look at the battery health at around 80% I had it tested last service at 176k reported 86%

I get between 130-180 real world range winter summer
But the vehicle is fully loaded and sometimes ladders on the roof aswell

I recon I have 48-50 kw in the battery down from 58kw usable from a 61kw from new

35-40% is CCS charging rest is mix of 7kw EVSE points

Bottom line is just use it and stop worring about range and battery health these are great budget evs for the money and very reliable
In every way. Yes they need regular service and parts can fail like any other vehicle.

I never worry about long trips never plan any trips eg charging stops

( except during school holidays and Xmas time )

250k is the goal but I am in the market of buying another EV innthe next 6 months.
If I was in the market for a £5-£10k EV with room the MG5 is on the list

I don't intend to ever sell on this vehicle as I want the mechanical bits for a future EV conversion on another vehicle I have had for 22 yrs.

The only problem I am having these days is Apple car play is crashing more frequently i have two choices

Replace info unit with used salvage unit or aftermarket unit

Both can be done my self.
Do you remember a point where the range stopped getting worse? ..... or did it actually remain virtually the same from new till now?

I'm going to assume there was some auto correct in there. :D
Either that or some really good alcohol or other substances :ROFLMAO:

Our local Menshed has started the 2026 run of roundtoits, would you like me to put an order in for you ;)

They are hand carved, someone was going to write a program for a 3D printer, but the program name sent the whole thing into a loop with a Windows type estimate of when it will finish compiling, so that was that .....

A batch might be expecting a lot, as the name suggests .... placing an order will keep them occupied with the ordering of materials to at least 2027

I think it's something we might be able to manage ourselves. :) Making these will help with the procrastination on other things. 😂 I think I will need a few personally.

Hi guys back after bit of absence!! The mileage now is lower then I thought just turned 201,300 miles and it was registered in 30 /04/2022
So just turned 4 yrs old.

Now since my last post I've had a few issues !! Just had main a service and MOT (2nd one ) at the cost of £1005.00 inc vat ! Because I was to busy I could of taken £500 off that
Had a battery degradation test, came out at 83% battery health current SOC

( major issues to some of you guys on here :))
Issues- because I abuse this vehicle I broke two rear springs because of the pot holes and always fully loaded. MOT failure.
So two springs and two rear shocks needed.

Battery and traction motor no issues!!

Next job I'm replacing front and rear brakes and discs plus brake fluid; change my self:). Still on original brakes remember.
If this was done by a dealer it would cost ££££ !
I'm running the car for another year 2027 another 50k miles taken to 250000 plus . I have driven 4 new EVs the past 2 months.... it's just hard to beat this vehicle.
Wish list: faster charging and 300 mile range but this will be on the next vehicle
:) It won't be a MG replacement, I will keep this vehicle as I fall back and run around vehicle.

Hi @MG Mile eater,

It's very reassuring to hear that modern MG's can shrug off that kinda punishment! 👍
My annual mileage is the polar opposite of yours. So hopefully, I'll have absolutely zero issues? As the current plan is to keep my 2026 HS PHEV for 10yrs.

Considering a PHEV is actually “two cars in one” and therefore lot more complex, expecting ‘zero issues’ based on the performance of an EV might be a tad bit optimistic??

Last month I PX'd a 69 plate 2.0 diesel car with only 6400 miles on the clock.
Consequently, if the MG PHEV can't hold it together with such light usage. It'll be going long before my desired 10yrs of ownership Mickey.

Curious, what made you go for a PHEV instead of a more reliable (less to go wrong) ‘pure’ EV?

On the one hand my annual mileage (in a daily driver) is so low. A full EV would have been absolutely perfect. And TBH I only wanted to dip my toes into EV ownership.
And I wanted a large SUV & with a name I recognised.
And MG didn't offer the HS in a full EV format.
