MG5 2024 Charging Speeds

Newbie here. 2024 MG5 LR.
Got Granny Charger - charges at 3kW - OK for overnight charge
Just had 7kW Zappi-Glo installed - charges at 7- 8kW - all OK.
Today I went out to try a couple of car park chargers so that I understand how to use them.
Went to a Mer 50kW CCS charger. It told me I would charge at 30kW which it did. This seems reasonably good and fast to me.

Tried a Mer 22kW Type 2. It charged at 3kW un-tethered, using the supplied single phase MG branded lead. Is that the correct rate? It seems very slow to me.
My understanding is that the MG5 LR has an 11kW on-board charger.
Is that a sinlge phase only? Or is it a 3 phase? What should I expect?

Hi, on a 50 kW charger you should have got a bit more than 30kW if you started at a low SOC day 20% and on a warm day.
On a 22kW EVSE using a single phase cable you should get 7kW. Are the L2 and L3 populated on your car? This would be 3 phase.

Sounds like the EVSE is only supplying 11kWh on 3phases, therefore you only get about a 1/3 on a single phase cable.

However using the same EVSE with a 3phase cable will increase charging speeds 3 fold on a MG5 LR FL..

My start % was 41%, the air temperature was about 9 degrees and the car had just made a gentle journey of about 7 miles.
I have looked at the input plug on the front of the car - all pins are populated - (Signals) + N PE L1 L2 & L3
However the MG badged cable only has (Signals) + N PE & L1 populated, L2 & L3 are not populated.

If I purchase a fully populated cable, with the additional L2 & L3 connections, will I be able to achieve the 11/22kW from a Type 2 socket (provided the supplying socket has that capability).

Yes, make sure you get a 22kWh rated cable, this will allow you to charge @7kWh on a single phase EVSE

Yes, but consider whether you actually need to spend that money. How often will you be charging on destination (7/11/22kW) EVSE 'chargers' ? How many of those will be of the 11/22kW variety?

Your current cable is perfect for your home charging, assuming you are on single phase, and for probably at (guessing) a large majority of the others.

My 3phase cable spends most of its time under the bonnet (fits perfectly without a frunk). I probably only needed to use it a handful of times but when I did I the extra phases made a big difference…

I spend a lot of time away from home, out in the sticks. with no option for any form of mains charging, not even the granny charger. I live off-grid when I am away. The nearest point to me is an Aldi 22kW 3 phase. It is 6 miles from me. I go to Aldi, armed with my single phase cable, plug in for an hour, get 3 and a bit kW in (about 12 miles worth), then I return. OK, I didn't lose out, my hour's charge balanced my trip miles, but it would have been a lot better for me if I could have taken advantage of the full 22kW 3 phase for the hour I was there. The nearest CCS Ultra rapid is about 10 miles in the opposite directionand one to which I rarely, if ever go.
Sounds like I will have to bite the bullet and get the 3 phase cable.
