The correct details - MG5 EV Trophy - now appears on most of the comparison websites, but none of them end up giving me a quote - I wonder if anyone else is finding this also.

Yes I am, spoken to three insurers direct, it’s not on their system, systems might not update until January. This must be a common problem on car releases it’s strange there isn’t a simple solution, maybe even dealership assistance.

Some MG dealerships are offering 1 weeks free MG insurance in order to be able to take the car home, but then still have the same problem a week later until next year, as one insurer told me it could take weeks before the car appears on their system.

I had this problem. I got mine through Flow, which is LV specialist EV supplier. It was the only company that I could find.

Just called the so called 'Customer Care' line at MG on 01217 564864 to ask for help regarding insurance. Spoke to a young lady who was extremely rude and wasn't interested at all. It was news to her about the problems with insurance. She told me that once MG sold the car to the dealer, it was nothing to do with them as it was the dealer's responsibility to ensure that the car was driven away insured. I suggested that MG provide free MG insurance until I am able to get insurance from one of the 'mainstream' insurers and not one of the 'specialists' at over £2000 quoted.

I am currently with Admiral (multicar). They are struggling to get me a quote. I have given them all the details and they are talking it to their "specialist" team to try and get this sorted.

Hi, I similarly had problems ( facelift MG5) with my then insurer Direct Line, MG s own insurance, nothing on the Compare the Market but went back to the dealer and they put me in touch with their insurer and sorted almost immediately. When I went to cancel my Direct Line policy they looked on their records and said they were going to contact me as they’d found the car and it was £15 to change…. Too late. When will insurers smell the coffee….

My free driveaway car insurance expired today for my MG5 facelift so have had to desperately find an insurer. My only luck was with Adrian Flux Specialist Car, Van & Home Insurance for the Individual | Adrian Flux. The bad news is that it cost twice as much as my quotes on comparison sites for the equivalent MG Excite. However they have told me I can cancel at anytime, I paid annually so will get a refund when I change to a cheaper insurer, which I will be doing as soon as possible. At least I'm insured now though!

I've had my new MG5 Trophy for over a week now. I've had my local MG dealer put it on a 5 day drive away insurance twice now. They've given us a MG4 on their curtsey car insurance for now. So we have something to drive, but still no luck with any insurance companies. This is getting frustrating to the point I want to return the car

Still not sorted insurance here.
A Plan seem to be making the most sense, they are going direct to underwriters (which can’t be done at the weekend). It is taking a while for them to come back with a quote.
Loads of dealings where ‘computer says no’ (car not listed) and the person dealing with my enquiry doesn’t want to take it further and so end of process (Lloyds, Direct Line, LV Flow).

I phoned L.V. direct 0330 678 5222 last WE , gave all my details first, then asked for make of car, they could not find the MG5 Trophy, went away to discuss with Manager, came back and informed they would quote for the MG5 Exclusive, and up date my details when the Trophy comes on there database. Might need a few calls until you get a helpful call centre person, I think I was lucky Hope this helps

Finally, MG insurance can do it. Website had the car, but then had to call an d confirm everything over the phone that had just been entered into the website.
Insuring the MG5 Trophy as a MG4 Trophy (with notes saying it’s an MG5) until updated within 30 days. Is a bit pricey so will cancel once comparison sites can find something cheaper.

I have had the same issues but finally managed to get insurance with the NFU. They have the Trophy listed on their system but the quote is sky high. £900+ for two retired 64 year olds with clean licences. They offer DD monthly payments with no cancellation fees. It is my intention to keep it insured for a month or so and cancel it once I can get a quote from a cheaper company.

I am with LV on the same basis.

MG insurance can do it through the MG4 Trophy. Although it's about 3 times more expensive than it should be. And will still say on your policy as an MG4 not 5
