MG5 Facelift Insurance

Done exactly the same. Picked up car this morning and cancelled NFU, replaced with Admiral at £367 with same protected NCB.

Have a great day
Had your dealer registered the car before collection? Our dealership hasn’t registered it yet, will do when we pick up. Could having the car registered to the number plate be the difference with what people are seeing? Tried all the comparison sites this morning and no quotes showing up. It will be registered today, so will try for insurance again (on comparison sites) on Monday.

Yes, they had registered the car before collection, but it did not appear on the comparison sites. But the Trophy appears in the list and I was able to get a quote from the Meerkats site. When I spoke to Admiral they then added the registration number to the quote and all was good from there on.

Regards, Chris.

Thank you all. I got a quote on go compare which I took to insure the car. I collected two days ago and trying to figure out how to use it.

Great to have this forum.

Many thanks.

There isn't much to figure out in using it really, there's a go pedal and a stop pedal and a steering wheel. Don't need to know much more really, oh apart from plug it in when the battery gets low, like you do with your phone. ;) :ROFLMAO:

Coming into this thread with similar problems, in particular, Direct Line. Three half hour phone calls and no joy.
5 Trophy is due to be collected on 30.12.22, so trying to sort out insurance with current insurer of my Megane, Direct Line. Spoke to MG dealer who said this a common problem and insurance providers should be searching for "MG Motor UK" and not "MG". Great I thought, back to DL for an online quote but they don't list "MG Motor UK" - damn.
Whilst talking to DL, I gave them a reg no. of a 5 Trophy on Autotrader and lo and behold, it came up as a 5 Trophy on their system. Seems that without a recognised reg no., you're stuffed but how does every brand new car sold get insured? I'm baffled lol.
Surely if the SE or Trophy has been around a while, the databases would be up to date.
Going round in frickin circles here, just thought I'd vent my frustration at the Insurance companies, NOT MG.

I was given my reg number by the dealer just a couple of days before I collected the car. They seemed to want to register it at the end of the month, presumably for sales figures and bonuses. Maybe if they'd hit their targets without mine they'd have slipped it into the following month, I've no idea.

I had plenty of time at that point to get the insurance sorted as the car was recognised from the reg. I imagine yours will be the same, despite the problems that others have had with the new model.

Hi pebble and welcome here not sure if this is of any help but when I purchased my MG5 bran new in 2021 March the dealer showed me a list of reg numbers and asked did I want to pick which one was to be put on the car several weeks before it was delivered.
Plus 2 months ago when we order the MG4 for my wife again we got the reg number the same day.
Now if that does not help ask you dealer to arrange MG insurance for you as they do a 5 day free of charge get you home cover they will speak with you on the phone ask you about your driving record etc and say they will email you a quote and then cover you for 5 days while you make up your mind if you want to do cover with them but you don’t need to as they are a but expensive.

So reg number should not be a issue
And 5 days comp insurance for free
Speak with your dealer that’s my advice they won’t tell you you have to tell them.
Les.

Exactly how it worked for me too (y)

Finally got it sorted after the car had been registered for a week. Had to go with MG insurance first of all, finally swapped back to Admiral the other day, back down to a normal price for insurance.

Any new car release (first deliveries) just ask the dealership to register as soon as the car is there. Within 7 days it should then be on insurance company systems.

Hi again everyone this is an update on insurance for MG5 Trophy I have said earlier about the issue I had with the wife’s MG4, but the uplift MG5 was far worse.
1st off I was going to do what we did with the 4 I was thinking the 5 days drive away insurance from the dealer that they had said they could do for me but the dealer got a shock when she rang And found out that that drive away cover from MG was no longer available for the 5 and that was while I was sitting in the showroom with the sales person on Wednesday afternoon they told her MG drive away insurance had been Suspended and that all dealers had been informed of this well they didn’t and the manager who was very annoyed with MG as he didn’t know neither they then tried every way they could to get some free drive away insurance to get me home with the car several other dealerships in their group for Kia,Honda,Suzuki, to name a few and none of them would offer cover on the MG5 uplifted model, so back to the internet while I was there and of the few that would quote that had it on there systems they where taking daft money so I came away without the car having paid for it and got there on the train to pick it up sick as a pig but with the agreement to deliver it to me in a few days FOC.

So I got home and started again phone LV no asked about what as been said above about doing it as an exclusive but was told no can’t do that
Direct line not available on their systems
Plus lots of others so I had a quote from the meerkats with Churchill so went back into that to make a few changes, to get anywhere near the price I had paid for the MK1 about mid £300s
So I increased the excess from 100 to 500 pounds in total and dropped the no claims protection that was £89 for that, and the mileage down from 10- 8000 miles which will probably be enough now so doing that manage to get it down to £450 odd mark I think it is but no way I was going to pay 7-800 pounds what most was asking for.
I did several but that was the best I could get so went last night and picked up the car.
So if your thinking of buying one sort out insurance before you do.
So we are me 76 wife 74 clean licences no claims or anything like that living in the northwest of the UK.

Im with Admiral Multi car. Got the MG5 ZS Trophy in Sept 22. They struggled to find it, but got a price and insured with 30min.

Try them on the phone and they also came as best price for us on a few of the comparison site far to expensive for us I think the cheapest price I got of them was around £700 your not the only one to mention them on here maybe I’m doing something wrong but I can only answer there questions can’t I at double or more than I paid for the first 5 and with Less benefits than I had I don’t understand it even tried a broker she came back at over a grand MG direct was around £900

I ordered a MG5 trophy which is due to be delivered in the next 2 weeks.
Started looking at insurance and read this thread first.
The Facelift MG5 Trophy and SE are now listed on Go Compare.
if you don’t have a registration number, I don’t yet, you enter the make.
Go Compare lists MG as 3 seperate entries, the second one is MG UK,
you then select the model MG5
that gives you the model years,
if you select 2023, you get the MG5 Trophy Long Range.

got a quote, not cheap, but under £580 with £200 compulsory excess and zero voluntary excess, with protected no claims and legal cover etc.and 10k miles per annum
Dearer than my Golf, but then thats only group 15 not 31 like the Trophy
hope this helps

Hey

I know there has been chats in some post about insurance for the MG5 Facelift but wanted to start a dedicated post.

This information has been shared. I believe it to be correct.
MG5 ABI codes and group ratings
SE Group 30 ABI Code 33701362
Trophy Group 31 ABI code 33701363

I am currently with Admiral (multicar). They are struggling to get me a quote. I have given them all the details and they are talking it to their "specialist" team to try and get this sorted.

How is everyone else doing?
Just a quick note these ratings above post by simorgan42 on the 6/12/22 are the same as my dealer give me a week ago so just to comfirm they are still relevant if you looking for MG5 facelift insurance which has been difficult to get and much more expensive in my case that I paid for my first MG5 50 kw exclusive the mk 1 model but could be getting better looking at some of the figures that have been posted here.
Here a new video from EVM put out today on insurance.
