I'm looking at chopping in the Mk1 MG5 for a Mk2 Trophy. The improvements seem to me to be be mainly cosmetic plus an app (is the screen larger too?). Also 360 camera.

The battery size is the same I believe but would it charge faster on a higher power rapid?

Is the boot the same size and shape, as I have the MG5 rubber liner. And can I still carry a spare wheel under the boot floor?

Anything else to consider?

The FL is less fuel efficient, owing to the larger wheels. May have a slightly harsher ride, too. Mechanically I don't think there's any significant difference, it's just a restyled front and more electronic bells and whistles.
 
I am looking at the FL 5 too.
I was after the extra range and using Tesla Superchargers.
I think the boot has two height levels so should take a spare but not sure if a full size wheel will fit.
 
I already have a spare in the Mk I which has the two tier boot. But never having used in in 3 years I wouldn't mind ditching it (actually had forgotten it's there!!). The rubber mat is very useful as I do some volunteering which involves a fair amount of load carrying so it'd be a bonus if that fits.

I'd not realised it allowed access to Tesla chargers - is the charging speed increased as a result?
 
I did the same. The mat from my SR fits even though it did not have a two tier boot. The rapid charging speed is the same; it is the AC charging that has increased, from 7kW to 11kW, but only if you also change your charging cable to a 3 phase one
 
I have the FL and did look at the PFL too. There just something modern feeling about the FL and the entertainment system and app was so much nicer. I rely on public charging so being able to monitor charge via the app was a god send.

As people have said the FL gets a few miles less but that didn’t bother me.

With regards to Tesla charging you need to make sure it the update to allow this. Some garages have been charging for this others have done in warranty. Worth checking mine was free.

Sore tyre I cannot remember the last time I need a spare tyre. I find the space vital and are happy to use tyre filling goop or AA of the need arises.

In the end they are both great cars and it will come down to personal preference and need.

Saying that there are some amazing deals on a new FL. I have seen as low as £19k. For that price you cannot go wrong.

Side thought both models are used by loads of London taxi drivers so always a good sign.

The low prices in theory ended at end September but it seems I might still be able to replace my red LR Exclusive with a red Trophy at less than the very cheap initial purchase of the exclusive with NHS discount!!. Massive depreciation over 3 years but no more than my neighbour's lease cost, and of course I have some residual value.

Most of my charging is at home but another string to my bow for public charging wouldn't go amiss. Maybe I can ask for the update as part of the deal. What would I request?

Not likely to go for three phase at home!

The 19k ones were mostly white and not trophy so didn't appeal to me in my situation but had I not already got an EV I'd have snapped their hand off!!

Just my 2penneth, I was speaking to an MG salesman during my last service, and he pointed out the increased charging speed for rapid users with the FL, I've only ever used a rapid on my PFL once, and it was a 150kW but my PFL would accept 55kW, still, I got fully charged whilst having a KFC and comfort duties. Only having a 7kW charger at home and not likely to get 3phase, it wouldn't really benefit me having a higher charge rate, but heyho it'll be there for travelling, if we can afford to take on a new model when our contract hire expires.

Ah yes I forgot to mention this. As someone relying 100% on public charging the 11kw was also a selling point for the FL.

Just have to make sure you get the right type2 cable as the standard MG one is not.

If you want to have a “one fits all” you actually need a 32A rated 3 phase cable (22kW), this will allow you to charge @ 11kW on 3 phase and @ 7kW on single supply.

If you go for a 11kW cable, you’re still good for max on 3 phase but on single supply it will drop to around half (3.6kW).

3 phase cables are heavy and therefore quite cumbersome for daily use, I store mine under the bonnet (no frunk required) for occasional travel and left the supplied single phase cable permanently connected to the wall box at home.

Just jumping in here: anyone know which Mk 1 trims got the two-layer boot and which didn't? Also has anyone tried to retrofit? I'd be interested to know if there are any holes behind the fabric I could just bolt a part on to.
 
At this point it feels like the builders were putting in arbitrary differences between the trims!

By my count, the options mean you can have any combination of:
  • Excite (no roof bars) or Exclusive (with roof bars)
  • ACC/lane assist or not (is this "Trophy"?)
  • SR or LR, which for some reason determines whether you get a two level boot or not

So 8 different combinations, and that's before they released the Mk 2 ?
 
So does my LR Exclusive. I only realised, fairly recently, it had that feature from reading this forum.
