MG5 State of reduction drive oil…

MG5EV Service Schedule.webp

Just had my MG5 in for its latest service (4 years) I note that the transmission oil was changed Shell sl2808 1 the cost was £33.86 for the oil.
Yet again the brake fluid was changed! I know the stuffs hydroscopic and Wales is a bit wet but the frequency of change is a bit OTT ! Particiulaly a the brakes hardly get used! I expect the brake pads to out last the car!
I at least have a dealer that is fairly good and does make sure the car is serviced correctly, and usually can book in a service within 7 days.

Concerning that the brake fluid is only recommended on the low mileage services even after 4 years
Not really, brake fluid changing is usually overdone. Just needs a 10 second test for moisture content, hardly any cars really need it changing before 3 or 4 years, even under heavy use.

Yes we test the brake fluid in the garage at every service. We normally bleed the system every time it has a pipe opened for brake work

Yep, my car at 2.5 yrs 34k miles is showing no moisture detected on the ( admittedly fairly basic ) resistance tester gizmo I have.
I'll probably run fresh fluid through it if I still own it at the 4yr mark.

2 years is unnecessary unless you park on the sea floor on a regular basis.

So here is the promised picture, 60k its dirty but not that bad, the magnetic plug only had a bit of steel on it. I am not concerned about it at all i have seen far worse in ZF auto boxes at the same mileage. It took longer to drop the covers and put them back than drop the oil and replace it. I will have to do some rustproofing this year to keep it in good condition as i would like to keep it until i finish driving
