Not an MG
I want to get a UK MG5 owners-only snapshot of overall satisfaction with MG, based on the whole experience:
  • The car itself (build quality, reliability, software and updates) - largely SAIC (China)
  • MG UK (customer support, parts and warranty handling where applicable)
  • Your dealer(s) (sales experience, delivery issues, service department, warranty work and communication)
Please vote for the ONE option that best reflects your overall experience so far.

How to choose an option:
  • Very satisfied / Satisfied: You would happily buy MG again based on your experience
  • Neutral: Some positives and negatives, but it averages out
  • Dissatisfied / Very dissatisfied: Issues or poor support have left you unhappy with the brand
If you want to add context, please reply with:
  • Model year and trim
  • Rough mileage
  • Main issues (if any)
  • Whether problems were resolved and by who (SAIC/software, MG UK, or dealer)
This is not about one-off niggles - it’s about overall brand satisfaction based on the combined ownership and support experience.

Although I now drive an MGS5, my first EV was a 2021 (PFL) MG5.
Had it for 4 years and only had one (warranty) issue which was very efficiently dealt with by Baylis Gloucester.
The first 3 years servicing was done by the selling dealer (AE Wilcox in Wickwar) but their franchise was dropped by MG so the 4th was done by MG Cinderford. Both dealers have been excellent.

I have one of the batch that cannot charge at Tesla chargers.

MG's lack of interest in rectifying this, has soured me to them as a manufacturer, with the intitial diagnis on this being led by this forum

My car, otherwise, has been everything I felt it would be. Nothing of import has gone wrong with it and the first thing to require parts... two new tyres at 4 years and 31,000 is testement to the fact it does the dull, everyday things fine.

As others will, no doubt, say the dealership interaction has been poor, I suspect because my local dealer is a multimake franchise.... I now use a local independant for servicing and get no 'upselling' video of the underside of the car for things like slightly rusty rear brakes (We'll replace the discs for £750).

I still like the car, never wanted a lot of the bells and whistles anyway, so I'll carry on with it until something catches my imagination more

Good to hear your approval of the Cinderford dealership. I bought mine through Baylis Gloucester, and had the first service there, but don't rate them too highly. I was going to use the Cinderford garage for the next service.

Had my FL mg5 for 18months, 18000 miles in and no issues to report. servicing has been all good at Arnold Clark in Edinburgh with MG service plan

I've had 2 MG5 a 2022 LR excite in Silver which was brought from Richmond MG Portsmouth , great service
Lovely car , no fills unless you pushed the pedal down to much
Px in for an Enyaq at there dealers Sokda branch next door
The other was brought second hand a 21 put SR Exlusive in black , not my 1st choice in colour but at £7494
I find it the better car range wise and fact there's no LKA or other stuff just normal Cc
Only thing I don't like is the heater control

yep mg car ok

the rest of mg organisation is load of crap

I had a new MG5 2021 pfl for 3 years and thought it was a great car.
I had a warranty issue and MG failed me miserably.
So in conclusion MG as a company to deal with is the reason I switched to Hyundai Kona.

2021 mg5 SR pfl owner since new, 5 years in July.
Apart from the rear washer pipe coming off in the tailgate, pushed it back on, and the same pipe but in the "a" pillar causes the car not to turn off/drive its been great.
Mg sorted out the recovery and repair and it's been great since.
Few screen freezing glitches and the 1 time I had to disconnect the 12v after getting a hv fault, after a dc charge 180 miles from home, it's been great.
Mine also can't charge from a tesla charger without being hardware upgraded, but with ionity offering their cheap subscription if needed its no problem.

My very local mg dealer is now only a service centre, but they lack good customer facing skills, so I went back to using the mg dealer that's about 8 miles away.

Plus they wanted to charge double for the tesla compatible module that Miles had quoted on here, £368 for the module alone vs £189 quoted here.

Mostly good. I mean with both ZS (15k) & then MG5 (now 14k) . I've no dealings as such with MG so can't comment. As to dealership (Northcote) I've no issues. Niggles has to be door locks, but eventually (4yrs!) we understood how they work. mmmh! As to heating (on both cars) was a pain; finding optimum setting for heat (without windtunnel!) just annoying, but we're sort of OK now. nb. I assumed its an issue for all EVs (perhaps heat pump is better?). And last, disappointed with resale value(s). However, MG was 1st here + cheaper than european EV's. Regardless of resale value I'll not switch to another now. TBH it no longer bothers me especially when I hear some MG5 guy in the community is reporting 150,000 & now 200,000 miles. Rock on Tommy!

Edit - MG5 LR 2021, 34,000 miles...

Car OK, with a few niggles. Inability to fold rear seats flat can be a right royal pain sometimes. The controls resetting to their mid positions as a default every time you switch it off is irritating but liveable with. The warnings are often wrong (Forward Collision is unlikely when there's an empty road ahead...) and can't be switched off. The charging port flap is plasticky and vulnerable (and there isn't a warning you've left it open, something that actually would be useful). But it was the best value for money when I bought it.

It is what it is I guess.

Oh you have me curious now, so what was it with the door locks that took 4 years to figure out ?
Regards heat, I set a temperature and press either Auto or off, summer or winter, left untouched.

Ageism I suspect in play with us? Anyway, before touching passenger door(s) I now disengage security lock ( driver controls on armrest). We then find all passenger doors function without issue.

Previously I would lean over & attempt double pull on pasenger handle. This worked for me (leaning over), but not for the passenger.. I assume perhaps gentle/feeble pull by my wife was insufficient As to rear door I could'nt reach, but on the occasions I did try it didn't work. Hope this helps

Mixed, had a MG5 FL from new for 2 years and 3 months which has done 22k miles, since last June, I've had a ongoing issue with it reliably charging on my OhmePro with Octopus Intelligence Go tariff, will only work if it gets a continuous single slot, been to the dealer countless times about it, only now have a got a technical case with MG with it.

Also, had the popped windscreen washer cable happen and an a squeaking rear tailgate, dealers replaced front suspension and roll-bar bushings under warranty, which didn't resolve, but I fixed it myself with a £5.99 can of silicone lube on the tailgate rubber stops.

Otherwise, I like the car, despite its quirks.
