Hi My 72 MG5 (latest model no MG badge on front) would not take a charge from 3 different rapid charges. The blue light would not always illuminate and when it did it would not turn green. Error message on rapid charger stated "fault with car". I tried all manor of things, pressed start charge on car display, checked no schedule set etc etc. At last gasp got a charge when us phone app and pressed start charge which got it going. Car takes charge ok from home wall mounted PodPoint.

Tried again today at BP rapid charger, same issue. Car now at dealer.

Anyone else had similar experience?

Its worth trying locking the car before starting the charge. It doesnt really need to be locked but locking the car will make sure the cable is properly locked into the charging port.

Always worth holding the CCS plug up while it does its hand shake.

Yep I know that one and did it several times. Charge cable defo locked in.

Always switch 'the engine' off before plugging in the charge cable.
Once it's in and working then start the car to use heater/music etc.

Yep car off, cable goes in, 150kw charger thinks a bit then comes up with error message. Car completely unresponsive, High voltage battery goes off line charge cable locked in. Have to wait 5 mins for car to reset itself. So think it's a bit more seriois.

Error Message : .Vehicle will not charge or switch on into ready mode. Owner has disconnected 12volt battery to try to reset. Plugged in and reset communication

My MG5 was disabled by a faulty charger today at Michael Woods Services. I plugged in and it came up with a fault. Unable to start car despite disconnecting 12 volt battery for 10 minutes. Excellent service from MG Recovery. They sent the AA out within 45 minutes. They plugged in their diagnostics computer and reset everything. Here is the fault code above which means nothing to me! Apparently it was due to a communication error. Anyone experienced this before? My first breakdown in 5 yrs of EV driving. Many thanks to AA for rapid fix and MG for covering call out fee.

Same happened to me a (good) while ago. 12V reset didn’t work, but I could clear the faults with my own Bluetooth OBD dongle/app, didn’t have to use it since but handy to check out SoH and battery temperature etc…

Thanks I have an ANCEL dongle but although it connected it showed no faults. Which one do you use?
