MGS5 auto dipping headlights

I think you push the stalk back twice or something like that
I am going to check this out
my headlamps never show the auto dim on the instrument cluster. I think i have seen it pop up once or twice over the past 5 months and don't know what actually activates it.
Likewise... i didnt know it had such a feature tbh.

I have mine switched off from the main car menu...it was driving me nuts as was so slow to dip for on coming cars, thing had a mind of its own.

I am reassured that as a OAP that I can STILL manually react faster with my hand, quicker and more effectively than a computer on my car, to control my headlights 🤣.
On my first car ( an early classic Mini ) you had to stamp the headlight dip switch with you left foot 🦶.
Absolutely fool proof.
Technology is a marvellous thing 😵‍💫🤷🏻.

My Mercedes 2015 E220 had the best headlights I have ever had. Dipped flawlessly at least as quickly as I could have reacted and never missed a beat. The 2024 MG, however, just rubbish on both measures.

I remember doing that driving my father's old Austin, mind you if you stamped too hard you risked pushing the switch through the floor.

I drove 1958 MG Magnetts for ages and they had a foot switch for the lights. It worked well until you needed your feet to operate the pedals on bends when there was oncoming traffic, then it became a bit of rapid foot work to change gear and dip headlights.
:)

Picked our new car up yesterday and had to go out last night . The Aut main beam came on even though there was street lights and remained on high beam when a car came towards me. I mentioned this to my son who has a Bourn Taviscan and he has the same problem. Will ring the dealer later today, in the meantime have switched the auto off in the main menu.

Rang the dealer and told him what had happened they said to arrange to bring car in. I’ve not done this yet but what I did do was spray switch cleaner onto a duster and clean the area around the sensor. This may have improved the sensitivity of the sensor as the problem did not occur at the weekend, it may have been wax on the screen will see how we go this week.

My solution to this "problem": turn off the setting for Auto High Beam!

I experienced the same issue with my MG5 PFL and the "solution" was the same.
