Hi All,
I have a MGS5 SE LR and I am just wondering if anyone has purchased a vehicle to load adaptor as yet, if so which one did you purchase and has it been a success? Many thanks Rob

I had one from ebay for my ZS, about £9 which did what I needed from it including running a tumble drier, will try this weekend, down in Wales at the moment so I don’t have it with me, don’t have the tumble drier either. :D

I bought an 8-metre V2L cable from Aliexpress and replaced the Euroland 4 gang socket it came with, with a13a 2-gang weatherproof RCD socket from Screwfix.

Just to confirm my V2L adapter from the ZS works just fine on the MGS5, ran the tumble drier just fine.

Has anyone else left the V2L adapter plugged in with no load, as I did yesterday?

It took about 3% out of the battery over the length of the day without anything plugged in.

Is that normal?

Depends on the adaptor maybe? They all have electronics in them that are powered by the car but I've assumed it would be a tiny current.

It's not that tiny. When using V2L, quite a bit of the vehicle's electronics will be switched on. Figures I found from someone who did tests on an Ioniq 5 showed a draw of around 250W. (I did that research to find out the round trip efficiency of using vehicle as a supplementary home energy storage battery).

Anyway, if the MG uses a similar quiescent usage, then it would equate to about 1kWh per 4 hours.

So it sounds like the MG is drawing a bit less than the Hyundai, depending on the length of your day, of course.

Hi, I purchased one from TitanMG. Very simple car plug one end 3 pin uk socket the other. Only tested it for a few minutes on a big Hoover and it worked fine. I've only bought it as a house emergency back up, if required.

I bought the same one as @GRM (for pennies) and have used it extensively (it's doing my laundry as I write) and it seems fine. It's not something you can really score. It does what it says and it's cheap 🤷‍♂️

By the way, I did draw satisfaction from the first one of these:

...so much of that is because of V2L! All my laundry and dishwasher, all my baking, all my office space heating (I have no radiator in my home office) from V2L.

anyone got links for a cheapo v2l adaptor? i was looking at these but wondered if anyone had opinions either way

i have an MG5 at the moment but the MGS5 is now on order so doing the usual research and pre-buying :D

I have a similar one in the boot of the car, but it's just for emergency use, if I was going to use one quite a lot, eg. for camping, I'd have one like this with several sockets attached.

I have this for my S5 and it works fine, smaller than it looks in the images.

Make sure it's compatible with MG's as they need a different value resistor to tell the car it's a discharge plug not a charging one.

I'd also be cautious about buying one that seems too cheap as it might not meet the UK safety requirements and it'd be embarrassing if it overheated or gave you a tingle when using it 😵‍💫

Have a look at EV Cables which are built and tested in the UK
