MGS5 VIOFO A229 Plus 2K +
I've decided after a lot of research to fit the above dash cam, it appears to be a good compromise between quality, reliability and useful features, without costing a silly amount of money (it still isn't cheap @£230 + fitting kit + micro SD card + other hidden bits which invariably crop up) also decided on HK4 Acc Hardwire Kit and Integral 256GB High Endurance Security micros, I've used Inregral before for photography.
I currently have a Redtiger on my current MG4, but since I fitted nearly 2 years ago, things have moved on a lot, although I have no problem with it, the spec is not as good as VIOFO 229 plus.
Has anyone yet DIY fitted one to an S5?
Although a competent DIY'er, modern car electrics are pretty complicated and I don't want frick it up, only driving it home from the dealership. 😂
Routing cables is relatively simple and straightforward, I'm a stickler for having as near zero cables showing as possible, but I'd love to know where is best to connect the feed, as the MGS5 USB feed to the rear view mirror region, I believe is not a continuous live feed when ignition off (ignition seems a funny word on an EV 🤔😂) .
Wouldn't it be nice if I can trace the mirror USB feed back to the fuse box and alter it to constant live (to enable the parking mode protection) but I very much doubt it's that simple!
Any pointers would be great, thanks guys.
Regards John.

It will be far simpler to run a separate feed if you must have a permanent supply.
HI Alb,
Thank you for your reply.
The only reason for a permanent supply is for the parking security, it's not essential to have it, but it's available on that cam system.
I'll probably just install using the supplied USB socket for now, I can always uprate it later. If I feel it's necessary.
All this spending is for recording something which is on balance, unlikely to happen, I've had systems on our cars for several years and never needed to call on them, hopefully that will remain the case, in which case it's an effing waste of time and money! 👍

My camera also has a parking mode but in reality, its usefulness is always going to be limited if it doesn't have 360 Degree coverage.
So in that case @Alb, have you bothered hardwire it?.

I'm seriously thinking about of not bothering, as our car is garaged most of the time, it's at times like now where it's parked in an airport long stay park, whilst we are away for 3 weeks, otherwise it's shopping trips.
I'm not sure it's a deal breaker to connect it, when the risk is minimal and connecting to the USB A socket in the radar sensor housing is made so easy!
Theft of EV's with built-in tracking surely deters villains, when there are easier targets.

I saw data from 2022 re thefts, only 8 MG cars were stolen in the UK that year. More likely to have some opportunist break a window to grab any loose gear but again that's less likely in a "secure" car park.
