MG S6 News

The MG S6 EV is a new mid-size electric SUV being developed by MG Motor, confirmed through Australian government approval documents and other regulatory filings. It is expected to launch in Australia during the first half of 2026, positioning itself as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7. The vehicle will be built on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP), the same dedicated EV platform used by the MG 4 and MG S5 EV, ensuring a focus on driving dynamics and efficiency.

The S6 EV will be available in multiple variants, including a standard-range rear-wheel drive (RWD) model with a 62.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, and long-range RWD and all-wheel drive (AWD) models featuring a larger 77 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NCM) battery. The AWD version will deliver a combined 266 kW of power from a 119 kW front motor and a 180 kW rear motor, offering performance on par with rivals like the Tesla Model Y Long Range and Kia EV6 AWD. The vehicle measures 4708 mm in length, 1912 mm in width, and 1664 mm in height, with a 2835 mm wheelbase, and features a 190 mm ground clearance.

Styling for the S6 EV reflects MG’s newer, sportier design language, sharing visual cues with the MG 4, S5 EV, and Cyberster, including sharp LED headlights, a low-slung nose, and a bold lower bumper. It is distinct from previous MG SUVs like the Marvel R, which was a rebadged Roewe model, as the S6 EV is an original MG design engineered from the ground up for electrification. The S6 EV will slot above the MG S5 EV in MG’s Australian lineup and precede the upcoming IM6 SUV from the IM Motors brand.

Pricing for the Australian market is expected to start around $55,000 before on-road costs, aligning it with key competitors such as the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, Kia EV5, and Volkswagen ID.4. While the vehicle has been confirmed for Australia, its availability in other markets, including the UK, is still uncertain, with speculation suggesting a potential early 2026 launch. The model is expected to be called the MG S6 EV, with trademark applications filed for the name
